Relay that to some of your LSU brethren. They seem to think he's Peyton Manning or Cam Newton. NO, seriously.

He's got more talent than AJM.
I know he played a great game, but his arm and mechanics at nothing to write home about.
I don't think he's as smart or as mature as AJM, though.

Ok point out where I said otherwise. Or do you just suck at responding to the right person?

Not you bud. It wasn't even a response so much as just stating or "throwing a fact out there."

You're good and the most reasonable LSU fan about this I've seen so far.

I'm not saying he will and I'm not saying I hope he does. I just want anything resembling consistency, maturity, and a brain at the QB position. Lee had 2 of the three, and JJ had none.

He may certainly look like that compared to our previous QBs.

With the defense LSU should have next year I have no doubt Les will stay with a fairly run heavy/play action offense. Of course you can still go down field but LSU doesn't really need a gunslinger.

We may open it up a bit more considering McCarron's experience and the slip (to whatever degree) in our defense.

AJ's arm strength is being underrated here. Its an NFL arm. It certainly won't be considered a really strong arm in the NFL but he has a pretty good arm.

I don't know anything about Mettenberger's arm strength so I'm not really comparing the two.

I hope Mett likes running the option as well.

Was he hurt this year?

I don't even think it was that. My opinion is that it was the game plan itself that made everything look so bad.

LSU fans wanted option. I can't count the number of times I saw this posted that "option will destroy Alabama." "GSU lit them up." "We're faster and will get to the edge."

Well, they got their wish. 44 days of preparing the option attack. We learned how to defend it is all.

I think y'all will. Face it, Lacy isn't TR. McCarron is going to have the confidence and come back strong this fall. Teams will be able to stop your run better with Lacy and not TR and I think McCarron will be able to step up and take the pressure off. Not saying Lacy sucks, but come on, no one is TR

Yea we went all in for the option and then didn't abandon it cause our defense kept us in the game for awhile

But I'm talking as a whole. Look at the first half of Arky or the SECCG. Not a lick of consistency from the QB position when they were selling out to stop the run. ie: when we needed it the most.

Beat BAMA twice. Well hell might have to play BAMA three times next year. Special BAMA rule have to play us till we win.

I like Lacy but he can be a bit tippy-toe at times. I think it will be more of a running back by committee thing.

That said, I'm not too worried about the running game because of our O-Line.

But yeah I think we'll open it up a bit more. Nothing crazy though, its still a Saban team with a good run blocking line.

Jarrett Lee 2.0, interceptions all over the place. The dude was committed to Kentucky for a little bit

McCarron had a reputation as a gunslinger too. Then he got into a Saban offense, which is not totally different from a Miles offense with the emphasis on avoiding turnovers.

The major difference is that Saban was able to trust his QBs more than Miles when wanting to have an aggresive attack.

So, would an AJ McCarron type season be acceptable? I mean obviously it helps to play really well in the BCS game, but even taking that out of the equation would McCarron's regular season be acceptable? 66% completion rate, 2,400 yards, 16 TD's, 5 Ints. Some iffy moments but no horrible performances?

Those were my expectations of Mett this year. No doubt in my mind that he could have acheived it, but our coach thought he could win it all with JJ at QB. He would have been right if we didn't have to play Bama again. Alabama was the only team in the country that could beat LSU with JJ at QB.

I've said this a hundred times since Monday night: The only difference between Alabama and LSU was that one had a coach that developed his Soph. QB and the other one chose not to.

I feel like we're almost confusing hopes with expectations. I don't think people actually see Mett as the next Cam Newton or Tim Tebow, but if y'all had been looking at a JJ/JL situation, you wouldn't think anything else might be better?

EDIT: Sorry, Kentucky came to mind.

Pretty much exactly where my expectations are with Mett

i didnt take this guy's original post to be a comparrision b/w the two.

the expectations are for him to be a solid game manager that opens up the run with his ability to pass downfield and also scramble (a bit).

with the talent LSU has, there really isnt a need for a game changing qb. this is what makes the bcsnc so damn frustrating. to see all that talent go to waste, when ANY qb production would have made that game completely different.
