How the hell can you possibly defend paying him 5.5 MILLION dollars a year? He's NEVER won an NCAA tournament game. How stupid is your athletic department?

I can see why Arkansas is excited about Cal - they have no players, and want the big name to get some momentum
I can also see why UK prefers someone else over Cal - been there done that with Cal, and they don’t need the big name to get the players

An attempt to make him and UK look big time to recruits and transfers. Money is the language players speak to define value so a program/coach paying/earning top 5 money must be high value.
My guess is the buyout is low. 5 mil is nothing to them if he does well. If he is a bust they have an easy path out.
If Microsoft had a lackluster new CEO hiring search, they would still pay top dollar to the average CEO to make shareholders feel more confident.

Untrue. If they got Oates, Donnovan or Beard (like they said they would) we'd probably be having an entirely different discussion. Instead they took some unproven rando from a mid major and made him a top 10 paid coach in all of college basketball. That's what makes this so funny.
