All fans think their championship team was the best ever. Personally, I think Bama '92 was better than Bama '09. That was one nasty defense.
And McElroy, he sucked!!! You were delivered a few games this year by the SEC and you know it. If you honestly believe this years Bama team is the best ever, than I feel sorry for you because you have been missing a lot of great college football over the years/decades!

Then why did '03 LSU and '08 Florida lose to inferior teams? Call it luck, call it whatever, but '09 Bama didn't lose. Even with their worst performances, Bama found ways to win. '03 LSU and '08 Florida didn't.

There is only one legitimate way to rank past teams and that is based on what they accomplished. To argue that a team from one year would beat a team from some other year is meaningless because it can never be proven or justified to any degree of certainty. Logic breaks down under such speculation because WE WILL NEVER KNOW. You can argue until your blue in the face that 08 UF would beat 09 Bama or 03 LSU would beat 09 Bama, but the simple fact is, YOU WILL NEVER KNOW. Since you will never know which team is better in a head to head match up, it is absolutely worthless to argue about. There will always be a legitimate counter-argument and there will NEVER be ANY certainty.

What we do know for certain is what those teams accomplished in the years that they performed. Those are facts that cannot be disputed. If we are arguing from facts, then you can not dispute that Alabama is the most accomplished SEC team of the decade.

If you are going to argue from "what if's" and "they would's", I personally don't have time for it. It's meaningless and only comes across as blind homerism. If you want to debate facts, I'm all for it but some of the posters in this thread are not arguing from facts, they are arguing from speculation. You can speculate all you want, but the fact will still remain that this Alabama team was the most accomplished SEC team of the last decade and, therefore, the BEST.

I root for Alabama just like you but I'm being objective here. '08 Florida crushed teams last year. They beat teams by an average margin of 30.7 PPG. For comparison's sake, Alabama only beat two teams by over 30 this year (North Texas and UT Chattanooga). I have '03 LSU ranked ahead of us because their defense was even better then ours and were more explosive offensively.

You're not being as objective as you think. While you are correct in Florida's avg margin of victory, Bama's this year was 21 ppg. Our average score was 32-11. As far as Lsu's defense in 03, they averaged giving up 10 ppg. A 1 ppg difference in scoring defense isn't that much better, especially given that we played a tougher SOS than they did in their respective years.

Also factor in that we finished the season beating two teams that were also ranked 12-0 and 13-0 along with defeating the Cotton Bowl winner, the Chick-fil-a Bowl winner, the Outback Bowl winner and the Liberty Bowl winner and it's easy to see why folks think this Bama team could beat any other team in the SEC this decade.
