08 UF lost to Ole Miss and needed a 4th quarter comeback to beat Bama in the SEC championship game. 2009 Bama defense was better in many categories than the LSU defense. I listed them all out in a thread a while back... aNd they managed to lose to a 7-5 Florida team at home.
but couldn't I say Bama needed a shitty UT kicker to beat Tenn., they needed injuries and ref assistance to secure an LSU win, they needed Auburn shitting the bed to win the Iron Bowl, and they needed one of the best college QBs in history to not play to win the NC?
Careful.

Don't forget we had the Heisman winner and 6 AP All Americans, which has never been matched in the history of the SEC (or country for that matter.) Alabama's 09 team was the most talented and decorated of the decade. No team was able to exploit a weakness and beat us, which is something only matched by AU 2004.
All fans think their championship team was the best ever. Personally, I think Bama '92 was better than Bama '09. That was one nasty defense.
And McElroy,

LSU 06 was better than 07 and several of the other teams ahead of them.

most talented LSU team ever IMO.

IMO its 2009 Bama and 2004 AU at the top of the list.
Sorry dude, but only a muscle cramp and a blind ref call on an interception enabled you to beat a 4 loss team. That's how close you came to being un-undefeated. Not to mention the pathetic kicker for UTn. I'd say your team was the luckiest team in the league, but certainly not the best SEC team of the decade. The 2003 LSU team, the 2008 FL team, and the AU 2004 teams all were better than the stinking 2009 AL team.

Then why did '03 LSU and '08 Florida lose to inferior teams? Call it luck, call it whatever, but '09 Bama didn't lose. Even with their worst performances, Bama found ways to win. '03 LSU and '08 Florida didn't.

when the frick are u gumps gonna get it. just because a team lost 1 more game than you, doesn't mean you're better. nobody thinks the 72 dolphins are the best nfl team ever.

There is only one legitimate way to rank past teams and that is based on what they accomplished. To argue that a team from one year would beat a team from some other year is meaningless because it can never be proven or justified to any degree of certainty. Logic breaks down under such speculation because WE WILL NEVER KNOW. You can argue until your blue in the face that 08 UF would beat 09 Bama or 03 LSU would beat 09 Bama, but the simple fact is, YOU WILL NEVER KNOW. Since you will never know which team is better in a head to head match up, it is absolutely worthless to argue about. There will always be a legitimate counter-argument and there will NEVER be ANY certainty.
What we do know for certain is what those teams accomplished in the years that they performed. Those are facts that cannot be disputed. If we are arguing from facts, then you can not dispute that Alabama is the most accomplished SEC team of the decade.
If you are going to argue from "what if's" and "they would's", I personally don't have time for it. It's meaningless and only comes across as blind homerism. If you want to debate facts, I'm all for it but some of the posters in this thread are not arguing from facts, they are arguing from speculation. You can speculate all you want, but the fact will still remain that this Alabama team was the most accomplished SEC team of the last decade and, therefore, the BEST.

2004 AU would mop the field with 2009 Bama. By two tds.
2008 UF is second and would also win by double digits.
2009 Bama might fall here, but 2006 LSU would probably beat them also.

09 bama's redzone offense was atrocious. their qb was average at best. thier special teams coverage was shite. that is not best team of the decade stuff

also stop using objective shite like all americans as a measuring stick. as if anybody but a gump thinks Cody should've been first team. or arenas as a corner

I root for Alabama just like you but I'm being objective here. '08 Florida crushed teams last year. They beat teams by an average margin of 30.7 PPG. For comparison's sake, Alabama only beat two teams by over 30 this year (North Texas and UT Chattanooga). I have '03 LSU ranked ahead of us because their defense was even better then ours and were more explosive offensively.
You're not being as objective as you think. While you are correct in Florida's avg margin of victory, Bama's this year was 21 ppg. Our average score was 32-11. As far as Lsu's defense in 03, they averaged giving up 10 ppg. A 1 ppg difference in scoring defense isn't that much better, especially given that we played a tougher SOS than they did in their respective years.
Also factor in that we finished the season beating two teams that were also ranked 12-0 and 13-0 along with defeating the Cotton Bowl winner, the Chick-fil-a Bowl winner, the Outback Bowl winner and the Liberty Bowl winner and it's easy to see why folks think this Bama team could beat any other team in the SEC this decade.

Funny thing is, we will never know who would beat who, or anything like that. It's kind of odd that '09 Florida isn't on the list though. They had an undefeated regular season and lost to the National Champions in the SECCG, while blowing out Cinci in the BCS game.
