Every word you're saying is truth, but I'll repeat my contention that once the big money ... 10-figure money ... came into the sport, it was inevitable that we would get to the point that the compensation you describe would not be enough to satisfy the players.

I knew it 10, 20, 30 years ago as the money kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger, but fans were too blinded by conference pride, bragging about the big TV contracts and waving them around in fans of other conferences' faces like they were showing off their pricks in bathroom stalls, to see down the road.

Let's stop lying to ourselves and acting like these kids were paying for their college, health care, books, lodging, meals AND playing football "for free". They have been getting EXPONENTIALLY more than the average student who actually goes to class and actually does the work, rather than having tutors do it for them, and then the player gets handed a degree as if he's "earned it," like the regular student. The value of health care, schooling, meals, and lodging is well into the six figures, and most of the time into the millions in monetary value. "Exploited" is a little dramatic...

This is what I never understood. Those kids were already getting compensated well. They were given everything they needed to survive (and thrive) for 4 years, for free. Plus plenty of extra perks. That's hundreds of thousands of dollars.

NIL's intent was to let people like the third string RB make some money off a car commercial because he had no future in the NFL. It only took like 30 seconds for it to unite with the unlimited transfer portal and turn into a pay-for-play free-for-all which basically killed the sport. That, plus the CTE concerns and inevitable playoff expansion, will ultimately be the death of CFB.

Plenty of us saw it coming but no one wanted to listen. Those poor exploited kids!

I was wondering about that myself. Last year was generally agreed to be an off year for the SEC and the Bleacher report had him rated no higher than the 35th ranked QB in the country. And his camp thinks he’s worth that? More than the annual salary of a third or fourth round NFL draftee? Hope he gets shitcanned all across the NCAA.

How much is Lagaway of UF worth? 3million?
It all depends on the state of your program. UF needs to win a lot more than Tennessee.

No one wants Billy Napier but there's a shite load of schools that would take Heupel in a heartbeat. Desperate schools/coaches pay morn

I'd say 2 million at UF.

It's very simple.

Greed and entitlement. A story as old as time.

The NCAA and the schools didn't have any foresight to what could and eventually would happen. But even still, there are too many people pretending like these kids weren't getting anything of value out of playing college sports. When in actuality, a lot of them were getting more value out of their college scholarship than the average American gets out of their job compensation package. But somehow they were "done wrong".

What I don't get: why hasn't the NCAA run to the NFLPA and beg them to represent the College players in a CBA? The kids will think it's great (I'm part of the NFLPA!) while the PA would have a vested interest in keeping the college pay BELOW that of their established rookie contracts. Not to mention the NFL owners whispering in their ears not to screw up the system that provides players and union members at no cost to either of them.

Dude was the 9th rated QB in the SEC last year. Him and daddy have royally screwed his career.

Nico's idiot dad and reps will have him getting 400K NIL for 2025 at this rate. 100% morons.

My enjoyment of college sports is nearing it's end. This little event and the retirement of jerseys in what is now the hood of CU has just about ended it for me.

All that it takes is one starting qb to get hurt or suspended.

We are more in agreement than disagreement.

I just think the money is a done deal now and isn’t going away, and people need to get past that.

The pretty much unlimited Wild West portal, on the other hand, I don’t think anyone envisioned that, and there’s a part of me that thinks the NCAA is allowing that out of spite to blow the thing up.

Ask yourself: Does Nico’s posse … again I don’t think he’s driving the car here, the evidence is stacking up along those lines … pull this s**t without the portal as potential leverage?

If they get a handle on the portal, IMO there’s plenty of money for everyone moving forward. But the portal is going to kill the golden goose for everyone if it’s not reined in.

Just saw a video from yesterday with Tony Basilio, the Knoxville talk show host. The short version:

1. Nico’s father is literally nuttier than a fruitcake, he’s a control freak and a bully who dominates his sons’ lives and Nico clams up into “Yes boss” mode when his dad’s around.

2. Tennessee isn’t making any stand on principle against NIL, they’re talking to other quarterbacks right now and are quite willing to spend $4 million to get one. They’re making a stand against crazy because they had zero idea they’d gotten involved with crazy.

Take that as you will.

He absolutely could transfer to OU sit a year and then play in 2026.

Do you think an SEC program is going to pay 2mm for him to sit?

And what I said about Tennessee not standing on principle here? They offered TCU’s quarterback a million more than he was making and he turned them down.
