Worst case for ESPN is if all other conferences cancel except the SEC. Ratings will be through the roof and the SEC will use that as a springboard to split from ESPN. The conference has learned a lot about the production side of football and will soon be in position to have complete control over all SEC media. NCAA should be sweating as well. Wouldn’t take much for the SEC to split if the NCAA fumbles the handling this season.

normally i would agree with the idea that it is a bad business idea for ESPN to want for the cancellation of the season. But one thing i've learned over the past 3 years is that with espn, cnn, msnbc and the like, their agenda is more important to them than a profit motive. Those 3 companies lose millions of dollars every month, they simply don't care.

They are all basically crying for football to be cancelled.
Why the frick would ESPN want to hurt themselves? ESPN has games on their own networks as well as all the shows dedicated to football. For fricks sake at least use some part of your brain before you type.

There seems to be a media bias on NOT having a college football season.
It is fairly obvious.
Maybe this is the crossroads for the SEC. Play the schedule and let the chips fall where they may. The SEC champ will be the national champ.

You are (and anyone that upvoted you), not smart.

that's because ESPN is owned by a liberal network who is owned by liberal Disney.

Do you know who owns ESPN? Yes, it’s the same company that owns fricking Star Wars.
The fly in the ointment for the “pure profit motive” argument is the fact that ESPN very much has a political agenda which they aren’t shy about promoting in spite of loss in ratings.
Same for the nightly news, MSNBC, CNN et. al.

What a dumb take. ESPN is losing tons of money because sports are not being played. I swear, conservatives can be some of the dumbest mother frickers around.

That's fine and you're entitled to your opinion. But what if you're wrong and they're right?
Can you conceive of a media company having a political agenda at all?

Not at the expense of hundreds of millions of dollars for a company like ESPN. It’s not even plausible no.

Disney does not give a damn.
ESPN is doing whatever Disney tells them to do. They are a subsidiary. And both are global corporations.

They certainly have a political agenda now. The only question then is at what cost are they willing to go to towards that end, and then what political aim are they hoping to achieve by the season's cancellation. They've no doubt lost viewership due to "WokeCenter" and other programming decisions. So they are willing to except some loss for it.
The plausibility of it rests in the fact that they are owned by Disney Corp., a company that could easily finance a years worth of college football TV revenue.

Essentially every major media outlet has gone from news organization to activist organization. Journalism schools are breeding grounds for left-wing ideologues, and their offspring now dominate the media landscape, whether it be entertainment, sports, or cable news.
One should wonder why a company would allow such self-destructive behavior under the guise of virtue. Under traditional circumstances, you could easily dismiss the OP's post as wildly inaccurate at best. These are not traditional circumstances, and executives have proven they are willing to bend the knee.

So you are saying a company is putting their political bias ahead of their bottom line? The difference bw ESPN and all the outlets you listed is ESPN is a sports network, no one watches for politics. The news outlets you listed are extremely political in nature. what the f is you point?
