Generally the FPI for in game match ups is pretty accurate, but that is ridiculous.

Offensive and defensive efficiencies. It ignores game results (wins/losses). It's a computer algorithm that aims to measure how "good" a team is rather than what ranking they deserve.

All that said, they still have bama too high. Our defense is absolute garbage when it matters, and the offense is kind of shaky at the worst possible times as well.

FPI isn't a typical poll like the AP, but a metric used to determine the 'best' team. A vegas line would be based off a similar metric, which would probably be slightly in favor of LSU. I wouldn't be upset by it, but rather impressed that LSU has a win over a team in the top 5 of the FPI. The playoff committee should be looking at this and giving LSU the #1 seed.

Alabama would be favored over any team below them (sans LSU, who is only one spot below them) and underdogs to Ohio State and Clemson. It's a good measure.

That depends.

If a team you like is rated highly, or a team you dislike is rated low, then it is the most advanced and accurate measurement in all of college football.

If your team is low, or a team you hate is high, then it is made up of fairy farts and gumdrop wishes.

and if a team was beaten by Gus AND O, yet still rated higher than LSU, it's made of aggie poots and gumpdrops.

Bama will end up ranked #1 in FPI and will count that toward their national title total

It’s a composite of various models developed by the third grade class of Saint Martha’s Elementary school in Ft Davis South Dakota.

A vegas line is just a prediction of public perception. Is that what FPI is?
