They started pushing a woke agenda too. Even their non-woke stuff is miserable. They started talking about feelings and sad background stories trying to lure in the female audience. They only succeeded in driving away the male sports fans.

People will tune in for games and that is it. ESPN has become a very subpar product. I hate that the SEC threw all of our eggs in this one basket.
Who is behind all this? Texas! Texas and ESPN go hand to hand with the Longhorn network and now with SEC network.

That chart proves the point. Disney is having record revenues yet their net income is stagnant. As Q1 2023 (not in your chart) but it is flat to the previous 2 qtrs. Disney is making a ton of money the problem is their costs are out of control which is why they're undergoing cost cutting currently.
As for stock performance over the past 5 years, that's meaningless. Stock prices for multinational technology companies that are focused on e-commerce, online advertising and/or digital streaming all thrived during the pandemic and then came off hard once the pandemic started letting up.

Lol. No.
7,000 Disney jobs cut through May. Before ESPN cuts.
The layoffs are part of a previously announced cost cutting plan. Disney is bringing in record revenues, in fact over the last 2 qtrs and 4 of the last 6 qtrs they set new revenue records for Disney.

Just saw that Gene Wojciechowski has been axed as well. They definitely took some meat off the bone with these latest cuts.

Many companies are seeing record revenues right now due to the the highest inflation this country has seen in 40 years.

If people only tune in for games their ad revenue will drop quite a lot. They used to make their money off of Sportscenter.
The ad revenue dollars are in the live sports. Everything else is playing for the same reason Walmart will run a store 24 hours in a rural town: more cost efficient to have it open while restocking according to their analytics.
Better to run content and make some money than run dead air and make none.

Last year I barely watched GameDay after tuning in almost religiously since the 90s. For one, it's too long. 2 hours of coverage before kickoffs would be plenty. Too many "personalities" and too much fluff.
As for any other ESPN programming outside of actual games... haven't watched any in years. I remember growing up when Sportscenter was almost required nightly viewing.
This.

Agree, Pollack and Van Gundy were the best on their respective shows.
Keep doing what you’re doing ESPN and you’ll be back to televising equestrian on saturdays.

I'd like to see numbers instead of percentages.
One thing I've learned laughing at CNNs percentages over the years... the numbers are terrible.
Honestly.

Revenue up due to inflation. Many companies are setting revenue records while margins are getting compressed. You don’t lay-off 7,000 people when performance is strong. The only thing saving them are the parks. Movies and streaming are losing billions.

I long for the days of Stewart Scott and Kenny Mayne.
Every time I've randomly tuned in the last couple years it's been liquid diarrhea.

Sankey has ruined the SEC with horrendous expansion quests and now the ESPN contract. Sankey needs to go!
