Wow, CGSC, this really seems to bother you. Get over it. However, Lobotomy seems appropriate for you. :)

Yet another who has absolutely no clue what the "CGSC Lobotomy" is...also known as the "Leavenworth Lobotomy".

Not going to find a whole lot of rednecks in Austin. They think they're the flagship branch of the University of California system.

the slot was pretty much given to Fox so ESPN could get more games on the Longhorn Network, to the conceivable benefit of all parties involved.
So far, having games on the Longhorn Network has been anything but a benefit to you, but please, by all means, keep spinning.
Keep this up and you'll have just as many viewers as we did in 2009, when only 6 regular season games were televised ANYWHERE (and two were on FCS-Central)

What is this supposed to mean? The TV deal was renegotiated and finalized before the 2012 football season. Are you saying there's been more contract adjustments since?
yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. Or do you think this was just announced because Fox wasn't sure which game they were gonna pick? Fox made an offer to ESPN for the game (hearing they are giving back one of the network Big 12 games). ESPN secured the Egg Bowl move. ESPN told Fox that's fine. Everything was then announced.

This was all done as per the agreement between Fox and ESPN inked before the 2012 football season.

Q. Draft process for selection rights?
A. ABC/ESPN and FOX have established a process and order for selecting games. ABC/ESPN maintains some top priority selections through the 2015 season. However, the two partners established a draft whereby they determined which weekends they select first, second and/or third.

In previous years, UT’s Thanksgiving games had been televised by ESPN. But as part of the Big 12's new deal with its broadcast partners, Fox had first priority in choosing a game for Thanksgiving weekend in 2013, and chose Tech-UT.

And yes, there are multiple Big 12 games Thanksgiving weekend:
2013 Big 12 schedule
Moreover, as of March 7, 2013, it was undecided which network would show the Texas Thanksgiving game, as per the Big 12's website:

Big 12 Announces Lineup of 2013 Weekday Football Games
Thursday, November 28
Texas Tech at Texas
FOX Sports or ESPN Platform
Now, if you seriously believe that if ESPN had first choice that weekend (which includes Thursday), and would've STILL skipped out on Texas-Texas Tech on Thanksgiving... I just don't know what to tell you. Even more damning is that the Ole Miss-Miss St. game this upcoming Thanksgiving was signed on under a one-year contract, i.e. ESPN will choose Texas for Thanksgiving next season, when they have first choice.
The Big 12's contract was exercised, Fox got their first choice, and ESPN went with its backup, which was helped by the fact that ESPN is under contract to show a certain amount of SEC Thursday night games, and used one of those contractual games for Ole Miss-Miss. St. to fit the time slot vacated by the Texas game.
Period.

You seriously don't understand the concept of "perception vs. reality" do you.
No matter how you spin it, this is not a "win" for you.
After all the huffing and puffing from Dodds about how easily replaceable the A&M game was on Thanksgiving and that they could put ANY TEAM in that slot against you and get the exact same draw, viewership, and notoriety...after creating a rotating schedule in which you always have a home game that night...the nationwide perception is now that your Thanksgiving night game is IRRELEVANT.

Meh, don't give me that crap. You all were thinking it was a slam-dunk that A&M and LSU would get moved to Thanksgiving; your former crook coach even said it was imminent. Instead, it's the two state schools from the mighty state of Mississippi that's a placeholder until ESPN gets first dibs next season for Thanksgiving.
Meanwhile, the entire audience for the Cowboys game Thanksgiving Day on FOX OTA will get constant plugs for Texas-Texas Tech.

Monday Night Football constantly plugged for the Longhorn Network last season...doesn't mean that enough people cared to get the four major providers (Comcast, Time Warner, DirecTV, Dish) to budge.
Plus, the Thanksgiving Day game for the Cowboys was on CBS last season, the Lions were on Fox. If the Cowboys' opponent is AFC again, y'all are fricked in that regard.

quote:You are talking around the Tday game details. It was always an additional T1 game specifically carved out in the contract that ESPN had rights to show on either ABC or ESPN. ABC always showed other Big 12 T1 games that weekend (and did last year as well). Contractually it is not part of the selection process for the Thanksgiving weekend games and it never has been.
if you seriously believe that if ESPN had first choice that weekend (which includes Thursday)
And ESPN isn't contractually obligated to show Thu SEC games. They would fricking kill for them. Your TCU game got a 1.1 rating. No SEC game last year got lower than a 1.5 on ESPN. None. Actually only one game broadcast on a traditional gameday got lower than 1.1 on ESPN all year (several Friday Sun Belt/MWC type games did though). ESPN has a floor to live cfb ratings and your 1.1 was pretty near it. It makes a decision to trade it away pretty easy.
Also, this has been in the works for a while and you used a Mar 7 date to show it's "always" been that way? Show anything from last year when the contract was renegotiated. Even something hinting the Tday game could possibly be moved off ESPN would suffice. It's not there because it wasn't brought up til Fox was looking for content to put on FS1. Surprisingly, FS1 was announced on Mar 6th

Isn't UT the hippie liberal college in Texas?

Kentucky football is more anticipated this year than the 2013 UT Mack Brown final act.. Everyone knows what's coming and even though very entertaining, that isn't what prime time tv is for..
