I'm only half Texan with uncles and cousins whose loyalties are split ... but imho she's right.

So possibly you could explain what exactly the "more" might be?

Success in life? I’m not sure about you, but the primary reason I attended college was to prepare for a profession and to make a living.

So ROI and earning potential/payscale upon graduation seems rather important.

Why is everything perpetual trash talk with you? You seem insecure. It gets old.

Texas is a far more respected academic institution world wide than Texas A&M besides in petroleum engineering and agriculture.

Petroleum engineering is the main program they are competitive against each other in.

Yokay.

Look, I’ll give the solid nod to Texas on the whole, and I’m not saying it’s entirely deserved, but almost any engineering degree at A&M will be regarded as an impressive thing. Texas is just not as known for it.

May not be fair, and it’s biased and anecdotal, but my travels have seen more kudos for A&M’s engineering program than for Texas. (Could also be a function that A&M engineering stands out BECAUSE the rest of the school is less prestigious.)

At the end of the day, all this is subjective, but let’s not overstate things and make it sound like an A&M MEEN degree just means you can color inside the lines.

Engineering and Ag is the only thing A&M has going for it, but depending on where you look, UT has more engineering programs in the top 10. But as a whole, UT is more respected academically. QS ranking has us 90 spots above Texas A&M at 66. QS is the gauge international folks use.

When it comes to computer science and computer engineering, we are on par with Cal, MIT, CMU, and other schools.

Let us know when Bama-Auburn gets so heated that the game comes off the schedule for 13 years.

The only reason Alabama and Auburn play at all is because the state legislation threatened both of them if they didn't start playing the game again.

Maybe you should learn a little history before making statements like this.

I’m not disputing anything you’ve said. I’m just saying A&M seems to have a better reputation in engineering AND that it may not be entirely justified across the board.

When you say A&M is only good in a couple of disciplines, you are overplaying your hand.

Yes, those guys were just as clueless as she was.

Texas and ATM are way closer to each other on any measurable level than they were stating. But Texas is a little higher in the pecking order on most things.

As far as the Michigan vs. Michigan State thing... Same deal. Michigan is better but not to the degree that they think they are. But there probably is a bit more separation between those two schools than between Texas and A&M.

One fascinating thing about Michigan and Michigan State is that there are only like four counties in the entire state that send more students to Michigan than to Michigan State. Michigan has way higher out of state enrollment.

The only thing that ever made A&M relevant is they are part of the same endowment fund that Texas gets the majority of; otherwise, they would be just another state school like Tech.

Texas has way more National Titles in sports. Way more national recognition and much larger fan base. A&M had a good 12 years or so away from Texas in the SEC conference which basically gave them an advantage in recruiting leaving Texas in a dieing Big 12. What did A&M do with it? It all got snorted up Manziel's nose. They have nothing to show for it. They are still and always have been a middle of the pack pretender in every conference they ever have been in...

Those rankings obviously don't account for Ags Zwin's travels!

Clearly flawed and should be disregarded.

Aggies have a much better stadium and game day atmosphere though. That definitely counts for something. They aren't exactly chopped liver. Just need a consistent coach.

It's Portnoy so he's definitely trolling. They're just giving her shite, but she makes a good point. What are we ranking here?

If we're ranking overall athletics, then yes. Texas has invested more money in more sports and have way more success.

If we're talking football, A&M was an all male military school while Texas was winning national championships. Since 1970, a few years after A&M started admitting women, the series has been pretty even. I think recently, Texas and A&M have had very comparable success, which is to say they both massively underachieve.

As far as academics go, they are on the same plane. Arguing a difference of a few spots in some stupid abstract ranking system is nonsensical.

I think a lot of the perceived difference comes from one school being in a large urban city and the other being in a more rural small college town. It places perceptions that aren't necessarily true on both schools.
