The same exact thing was done just a few years ago.

bama complained that too many SEC schools were taking their bye the week before they played bama. A mandate was sent down that there can only be X amount of bye weeks for SEC opponents.

Most years the SEC schedule ran so that 2-3 teams had bye's before playing Bama. In '07 (4) teams had a bye, '08 (5) teams had a bye and in '10 (6) teams had a bye before playing Bama. All years in between 2007-2018 there are a mix of 2-3 teams with a bye before Bama.

Bama fans bitch about the league scheduling bye weeks. Then Bama fans claim they want 9 conference games which takes away scheduling from the Bama AD and hands it directly over to the league.

There isn't sound logic in that.

Do away with divisions and have 3 permanents, 5 rotating Home and Home. This gives every 4 year player a chance to play in every SEC stadium. This would also help attendance with some new matchups every season.

I'm on board with abandoning divisions.

But isn't there a ncaa requirement for divisions when you have a conference championship game and 12+ teams?

Only thing it tells me is AU will do what it wants, and uga will sit like good little cucks in the corner.

The DSOR, to me, epitomizes Southern football. More than the Iron Bowl, more than the 3rd Saturday in October and more than the Cocktail Party. Two rivals playing at 3:30 on CBS on a crisp, fall November afternoon. I'm neither an Auburn nor UGA fan and this schedule change pisses me off.

Currently but even a championship game wasn't allowed at all until the SEC wanted to do one. Rules can be changed.

Come 2024, I'd love to see the SEC do something radical like move to one of the pod systems and petition the NCAA to make a rule change to allow it.

They tossed that requirement in the trash for the Big XII's new championship game and didn't even blink. Gave them a waiver for their 10 team round robin league so they had a 13th data point and a championship for $$ like the rest of the Power 5. Do you think they would block the SEC from improving things?

Your point? UGA has 5 byes before opponents play us this year.

Yup. So you HAVE to have divisions or pods that make up divisions.

Unless you're B12 that is small enough for a round robin.....which contradicts the need for a CG.

I'ld love to see pods too.

Y1 - Pods A/B winner vrs. C/D winner
Y2 - Pods A/C winner vrs. B/D winner
Y3 - Pods A/D winner vrs. B/C winner

You play everybody in 3 years & the SECCG teams are more randomized.

I'd like to know your definitely of groundbreaking, because this is something that has *literally* never happened. This game has been played in November since the 30s. The only regular season games with AU not played in November were in the last week of October (not counting the first ever meeting in february). We have never played auburn in september or early october like we're about to. And this happened simply because au thought their schedule was too hard for them.

I would say that's the very definition of groundbreaking.
