Don't have the link from Tiger Rant. North Carolina and UVA are SEC expansion targets.

Thoughts. I know UNC wants the SEC. I'd rather add Clemson than UVA.

I know the Ags call the Horns the Tea Sips, but UNC and UVA are two fanbases that this would more accurately apply to.
Probably the two most pretentious fanbases in the nation.

UVA unc and Mich fans are pretty pompous in person

It won’t be UNC.
I’m thinking Clemson or FSU.
CLEMSON needs the money.

shite, why not?
we’re not even the SEC anymore

It's pretty well known from higher ups at UNC that they would rather the SEC. They bring elite basketball and baseball.

And immediately their academic rank will fall.

UNC would be a fantastic add to the conference

Guess we're a basketball conference now.

quote:No; if you mean "wealthiest" per capita, sure they're up there as far as land grant universities go (but to exclude private schools---Duke, Stanford, Vandy, Northwestern, SMU, TCU---lacks ready logic); if you mean "entitled", I can point to about half a dozen programs in a line between Texas and Michigan that are worse (TX, Nebraska, Ohio St, Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn St), and if you just mean bow-tie wearing cornballs with gout, I think Ole Miss, Maryland, and all those private schools still have you beat.
Probably the two most pretentious fanbases in the nation.
They're somewhere between South Carolina and Vandy. Maybe like how UGA used to be before Michael Adams retired, the Georgia Way went bye-bye, and the school embraced a real separation from academic instiution and athletic department.
Something I can see UNC especially, and probably UVA, doing once they have the cloak of invincibility that an SEC membership provides them

Of course UNC and UVA make the most sense:
1. Complete the Southern footprint by adding the final state flagships.
2. Academic elites that would join their D1 Southern peers, like Vanderbilt, Texas, UF, and UGA.
3. Wealthy, educated, and burgeoning population states that (despite gridiron woes) succeed in the other big sports (men’s bball and baseball) and should eventually do well in football with SEC branding.
4. Located in classic Southern college towns, attended by mostly Southern students, produce alumni in mostly Southern cities, work with other SEC grads, and offer game days on picturesque Southern campuses.
5. Culturally and historically part of the great South. No, transplants in Northern Virginia and Raleigh don’t render those states “not Southern” (just like transplants in Chicago don’t render Illinois as “not Midwestern” or those in Denver render Colorado “not Western”).
T-Shirt fans on this forum will prefer Clemson and FSU, but, thankfully, those people have no societal sway or insight for good reason.
