I hate when UG people are so sensitive. So you want to break down every point? I see the shiny hook so I'll play along.

quote:

SC recently has been a more IMPORTANT game, as it has been more relevant to the east. But it's not a bigger rival.

UT was rarely on the schedule until division play. Prior to '92 the only significance w/ UT in my life was running over Bates. I've never seen a "rivalry" w/ UT.

quote:

Is clemson a bigger rival to us than tech is?

I see some hypocrisy in your angle. Do you?

quote:

how long have you lived in Athens?

You got me, I don't live in Athens. I live in Watkinsville. But I go to Athens daily. Will that suffice?

quote:

And SC wasn't even in the fricking SEC until division play started.

Yet they almost an annual opponent.

Spurrier made this a rivalry. People in Athens (oops, Watkinsville) want to beat SC more than UT because of this. Part of that today is because UT stinks, but hey, SC did too. Something has to make it a rivalry. And that was Spurrier.

But again, all of this is subjective. Alabama want to claim that LSU isn't a rival but UT still is. Paradigms shift over time. And while you're right about importance, feelings change when those paradigms shift.

You can't just pick some random team out and say they are a rival

Exactly. But Spurrier has recently brought out emotion that I've never seen against UT.

quote:

Just because a series is competitive does not make it a rivalry. UGA/GT is a huge rivalry and the series has not been very competitive lately.

Huge rivalry with Tech? Georgia was selling tickets to the public the week of the game. And before you mention Thanksgiving, there weren't any tickets being sold to UA/AU that week. Tech tickets have always been easier for me to get. SC, AU, UF? Not so much.

quote:

If we decided to play Ga. Southern or Ga. State every year, that would not necessarily make us rivals.

It's the emotion of the game. Spurrier's presence has made it a rivalry because of his public disdain for Georgia. Will it be the same after he retires? Probably not. But right now it's intense, & it's not exclusively because of the game's importance.

Give what up Country Dawg? That they're not a rival? You're intentionally being obtuse. But hey, thanks for backing up your opinion. By the way, your burgers suck.

Do you know how hard it is to win 6 or 7 rival games a year? This is why UGA can never make it through unscathed jesus open your eyes.

Being an Alumnus of UGA and currently living in the heart of Gamecock country, I think I have a good pulse on these teams.

SCAR fans will be the first to tell you they hate UGA more than UGA hates the cocks. There are 3 games UGA fans circle every year, Tech, Auburn and Florida. I find it humorous that a fan of another team, a lesser one at that, argues for or against a "rivalry" that doesn't involve any rooting interest.

Spin it however you like, the fact is UGA vs SCAR has SEC East consequences so it becomes an important game. But by no means does that define it as a rivalry. A rivalry is built on hate and a underlining mutual respect. I don't hate SCAR and I find Spurrier to be one of the best coaches in football. Seems like a shitty rivalry if you ask me. But please carry on, you look like a dumb shite

Georgia is one of the most talented teams in the conference. Unfortunately they are also the most unpredictable team in the conference. When they are on they can beat any team in the country. When they aren't any team in the country can beat them.

Winner! UGA has looked like they could win the SEC at times (@Missouri, @Ark, Auburn, Clemson), and at other times didn't look like they would compete in the Sun Belt (USCjr, UF, GT). I have no idea which team to expect for the bowl. Usually a pre New Years bowl would mean no motivation whatsoever, but Grantham being on the other sideline could change that.

You may have a "good pulse" on these teams, but you don't have a "good pulse" on the context of the dialogue. This SC rivalry discussion is predicated on the fact Country Dawg claimed that UT is one of UG's four rivals. My point is that UT is less of a rival than SC, based on the definition of a rival presented by you. SC may not be one of UG's top four rivals to YOU. That's why, as I wrote earlier, that the definition is subjective to the individual.

So, you're the one not following the context of the thread, yet you're the one calling me a name? Well, carry on.

47–18–2 vs SC. Not a rivalry

Going back to the all-time records to try & make your point? So do tell...why do you list UT as a rival?

72% win percentage against SC & 64% against Tech. Yet, Tech is a "huge" rival against which UG resorts to selling tickets to the public the week of the game this year?

Far be it from me to stop your chasing your own tail.

However, it should be noted that most UGA alumni would consider Clemson a bigger rival than either USC or UT.

What has who you bet on got to do with this conversation? I could care less who you bet on. You seem to be the only one that cares how you throw away your money. I would be willing to bet you lost a WHOLE lot more than you win, but once you come on a message board you are a world class picker. I would imagine being as good as you are, you must be retired or making a living betting on games.

And you think other people are dumb.

So? YOU are the one that said that we were a rival because of the frequency of the games. I was pointing out that that doesn't necessarily make it a rivalry. You keep moving the goalposts. YOU made several points and I refuted them. now you want to excuse your points by making different conflicting points? Find out what makes a rivalry, then we can talk. As South Carolina sinks down into irrelevance again you will shake your head at even suggesting that South Carolina and Georgia are rivals.
