He made his name by stirring up controversy. He quickly discovered that controversy attracts crazy, and that all he needed to do was let crazy be crazy.

No football knowledge required. But it does require a knowledge of the culture and conversation so you know the right times to push buttons.

Well he's a radio guy has been for a long time. His radio interviews with coaches and others are usually solid.

You're describing how he looks on TV and I completely agree that he's got a face made for radio.

I check it out during my commute home. I don't think I've watched 5 minutes of it on the SEC network.

And he does do a good job of getting his guests to talk, which is the trick of conducting a good interview. He gets things rolling and then lets the guest lead.

He knows football, he used to be a good journalist and he does a damn good interview with various coaches, etc.

But he has literally made millions upon millions allowing the dregs of sports fans act like imbeciles on his show.

He increased his salary 100 fold when the chose to go completely "Jerry Springer."

What exactly are his credentials other than riling up Bama and Auburn fans?

He went to Tennessee on a football scholarship (QB) until he got hurt.

He knows the game intimately.

Is it bad that when my youngest son watches Spongebob, and Squidward comes on, I think "oh, it's Paul Finebaum".

Finebaum isn't an Xs and Os guy, and he's never claimed to be one.

What he does know better than just about anyone is how the politics of the SEC works. He has contacts throughout every athletic department and associated booster groups. He knows when a coach will be fired 6 months before the AD does.

He's an investigative journalist that just so happens to investigate SEC football.

"An investigative journalist"? Good Lord. I assume you put Jerry Springer in the same catagory too, then? He was fired from his job in Shreveport, La. for falsifying a story & then lying about it when he got caught. You are mistaking his knowledge for that of his staff researchers', who give him an outline of every one he's to interview & any major story lines.

No. Never has, never will.

In the few times I've watched the new show this year, Marcus has bailed his arse out of having to answer several football questions.
