11-1 with the only L to #1 LSU and a quality road win over #20 Auburn should be enough to secure the SECCG bye and a spot in the CFP, right?

Sadly, yes. But it is what it is.

I've accepted a long time ago that you have to beat Alabama twice in a season to truly beat them. I think we're up to it.

Assuming a Bama win over Auburn is a bit of a stretch perhaps. Huh?

I’m not sure the loss will be what clinches it for them. They’ll probably get in with a win as well.

Or just lose the first game and win the rematch.

But you have to win the rest of your games in between.

They also beat Tennessee who beat SC who beat Georgia so that counts as like 3 wins.

No. The blow out in the CFP eliminates the Bama pass. OSU got blown out and missed two playoffs as conference champions. The committee doesn’t want to be second guessed about their choice and there are now doubts.

If you fall into the one loss category, your playoff life suddenly is dependent on the fortunes of Oregon, Oklahoma, Georgia, the Penn State-tOSU loser, and probably some other teams. A lot of things have to go right for you to get a second chance. I wouldn't hold my breath.

Bama and Clemson are the teams who will get in if you can make any sort of rationalization.

It is what it is. Teams like OU, LSU, UGA, ND, and even tOSU won't get the same leniency

How much does the playoff committee care about conference titles? I suspect that the Big XII champ is going to be 12-1, and no matter how you draw that up the Big XII champ will have a bigger win than Auburn based on record and ranking (either Baylor or OU). I would consider Alabama better than either of them, but the playoff committee might not.

There's also the possibility of 11-1 Penn State in a similar situation but I think Alabama gets the reputational nod over them pretty easily.

The real interesting part is if Oregon finishes 12-1 and Pac-12 champs as well as a Big XII team finishing 12-1 and champs. I don't think Oregon will.
