I got your down cycle right here. The truth is this: A&M was God awful on defense last year and only returns 5 starters there...lost their qb.
UF was awful on offense...but sr qb did get hurt ealry in game against Bama when we were 4-0, now Im not suggesting UF would have won....but we were leading Bama at one point in 2nd qt. After that two true frosh qbs were forced into action and of course were like deer in headlights. But they do have game experience. We return 15 out of our top 16 tacklers from # 8th ranked defense in the country....think about for a minute.
A&M has an exp and good OL...but UF has an OL that is better than folks realize and will be one of the top OLs in the SEC imho.
A&M does have two very good def players...Moore is a stud from replay games I watched...but UF has depth all across the board and has been recruiting AAs a long time. Our def secondary is loaded and guys who would start at other SEC schools are second team...Boom has them competing like hell for starting positions...everything is open.
The way I see it...if UF doesnt committ more than 1 turnover we win....our defense and speed will surprise you.

One thing to keep in mind is that defensive depth will mean nothing against A&M for the entirety of a series. We will make no substitutions, haul arse to the line of scrimmage, and make you play with what is currently on the field.
Only way that doesn't happen is if the refs start holding the ball between snaps. This offense is predicated on not allowing substitutions. As long as the offense doesn't sub, the defense won't have a chance to either under the rules.
So I'm not sure defensive depth is really going to matter, here. And if we don't score at least 21 points I will be shell-shocked. We have for superior talent to teams like UH and Tech, and they scored huge numbers in this offense. However, our defense is abysmal, so it will be a shootout.

Usually it's the older crowd that travels. Can't wait for this game.
BG first tomorrow though. I'm sure A&M fans will be tuning in to scout UF out.

yeah...wth was I thinking? Defensive depth is worthless against you guys....there wont be any stoppage of plays...oh...forgot...your punter may be trotting out on the field more than you realize dimwit....our defense will be on sidelines telling jokes and getting plenty of Gatorade.

There won't be much stoppage of plays - the offense is essentially line up, run the play, hustle to the line of scrimmage, and snap it again.
The Center is actually the one who has to be quickest on the ball so the refs are required to spot it. Now, I'm sure there will be stoppage of play for penalties and such, but we aren't going to be making substitutions, and giving you the chance to do so.
Chances are your depth will be more along the lines of first team in one series, a few substitutions in the next. Sumlin spent the entire Spring and Fall yelling at the offense to go faster, faster, faster! The goal is 100+ snaps in a game.

I think calling A&M's defense "awful" last year is a bit of a strong statement. A&M led the country in sacks and returns their top 2 guys in that category (Porter is pre season All SEC as well). A&M also was decent against the run. Where we struggled was depth and some unfortunate injuries really hurt us against some spread passing teams of which we saw plenty. A&M has had some horrible defenses in recent years but last year was not one of the really bad ones. I have seen the D in the 2 scrimmages so far and can tell you the 1st team is very solid, the 2nd team is decent, it's when you get past that when things get dangerous. I think that hurts A&M a lot later in the year but for the 1st game everyone is fresh and healthy.
If UF can block well and spread the field there will be some opportunities but I don't know that they can. Say what you will about the B12 but there were some serious offenses there. RGIII at Baylor. Landry Jones at OU. Brandon Weeden at OSU throwing to the freak that was Blackmon. Arky of course. A&M's offense is in the same category as any of them. We also don't just have a good OL, we are as solid up front as anyone in CFB. Joekel and Matthews are incredible bookends at OT and the lack of pressure our QB's had last year considering how much we threw the ball was amazing.
I do respect UF and the athletes that you have. I just don't think you should underestimate A&M simply because we were a B12 school last year.

See, this tells me that your team has never faced this type of offense. It is impossible to cover the field and stop the ball from moving forward UNTIL (and this is the weakness of this type of offense) A&M gets in the red zone (or unless there is a turnover). The back of the end zone acts to limit the amount of spread the A&M offense can dictate.
We may not score, or may end up with 10 field goals and lose by 50 points, but 3 and out every series for A&M's offense allowing your D to sit around telling jokes....NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

Malzahn was huge in the HUNH philosophy that Sumlin uses.
The air raid was at Kentucky back in the late 90s.
This is nothing new, it doesn't work in the SEC. Big12 yeah, SEC no.

Fla is in their 3rd straight year with a new OC each year and an unexperienced QB . Fla is not use to winning. It depends what they do before this game.
Being the 2nd game of the season and at aTm, aggies could win.......

Maybe not, but not because the offense can't move the ball and goes 3 and out, like the gator says.

Was Malzahn a disciple of Holgerson? If you really want to know what A&M will run look for a blend of Leach and Holgerson given that KK has learned under both, most recently Holgerson before he left UH for OkSU. A&M actually broke out the diamond formation in the Fall practices, which addresses some of the deficiencies of this offense in the red zone. For the record, I think Holgerson is the smartest OC out there these days.
A&M will have growing pains, but it isn't like we are thin when it comes to offensive talent. And if you are going to have a fish QB, having a veteran line to protect him helps. Now the defense? Couldn't be much worse than last year, and I love the new secondary coach.

It has been tried and failed at schools who are better than aTm, it isn't the talent as the same talent went on to have successful seasons, more so than any in aTm recent history. The philosophy doesn't work, you'll realize this when you play yourself in to being blown out by the upper teams because you can't wait to put your defense back on the field...
Posted on 8/31/12 at 5:49 pm to DaleDenton
I would classify the "upper" teams as LSU and Alabama, and noone expects us to beat them at all. I have ZERO idea what to expect - the only thing I do know is that we have NO chance to win with a conventional smash mouth offense.
You have seen our defense, right?

And what schools would those be? OU won a national title and has been to several other title games using a similar offense and comparable offensive personnel to what we have. No other elite level team with the type of offensive talent that we have has tried to use this offense to my knowledge.

OU is in the big12.
This is a discussion about the SEC.
You knowledge is showing to be severely limited, I don't have time to draw the pictures needed to explain it too you since your reading comprehension is severely lacking.

Ok...then....please tell me what caused the horrible collapses at A&M last year? Weather? Injuries? Locusts?
I watched more than 1 replay game btw...A&M pulled their britches down in 4th qt..simple as that. Our defense is stout and in the SEC defense is everything....no defense and you go home and cry on your pillow. No matter how good an offense is...the defense wins hardware for the trophy case. But...hey...on Sept 8th we will all find out whats happening...at least you guys can watch us play Bowl over Green on ESPN at 3:30 tomorrow and see what you think.

This offense doesn't look anything like what has been in the SEC before. KY had an early version of the air raid but outside of Tim Couch it didn't have the talent to run it fully.
A&M's offense also won't even look like what UH ran last year. UH didn't have good RB's or TE's. The closer comparison is likely what OSU ran or what OU ran a few years ago when Sumlin was their OC and they had Adrian Peterson. The thing that has me excited as an Aggie that has watched a lot of these offenses is that we have the OL and RB's that will prevent teams from sitting back and focusing on the pass. The real X factor is Manziel. Can a RS Fish make the quick decisions necessary to make it work? If he can then watch out because he is also a 4.5 runner that is elusive when he tucks and runs. If not then that is the best chance for Florida to make it a rough day for the Ags.

The question is defensive depth.
depth and maybe some other weaknesses. florida's D is gonna make it tough for y'all to score points and i believe they will score agains your D. i think it will be a fun game to watch with florida winning by 10+.
