Before "Championship Saturday," LSU was ranked No. 7 and Georgia was ranked #4. However, after No. 1 Missouri and No. 2 West Virginia lost, LSU was catapulted to No. 2 based on a 21–14 win over Tennessee in the SEC Championship Game. Many argued that the Bulldogs should not play in the National Championship game because they didn't play for—let alone win—the SEC Championship. The Bulldogs and Vols finished with identical 6–2 records atop the SEC East, but Tennessee represented the division in the championship game by virtue of beating Georgia 35–14 in October. Virginia Tech had been ranked No. 6, above LSU, but had to settle for the No. 3 slot, despite a convincing win over Boston College in the ACC Championship Game. Voters were likely influenced by LSU's crushing 48–7 defeat of Virginia Tech early in the season. Computer rankings placed Virginia Tech (0.960) and LSU (0.950) No. 1, and No. 2, respectively.[42] The top four teams in the BCS standings were No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Virginia Tech, and No. 4 Oklahoma.

Your scenario lacks enough variables.

Are there other 1 loss teams? Teams that went undefeated?

If there aren't two undefeated teams, sure.

Geez man. Easiest schedule in the SEC does not equal Boise States strength of schedule.

Maybe you should add that there was only 1, one loss team and no undefeated teams. But it is ok I know you are going to claim that title in 15 years or so retroactively.

We were not a "media darling" that year. In the final standings of the season there was good reasoning in putting us at the number 2 spot, specifically:

If they lose to a team especially one that beats them at their place and that team makes it to the NCgame then no they will not go. Oops I forgot.

1 loss anyone wins the SECCG then they're in.

It depends on how the dominoes fall. Alabama and the SEC were out of the national title picture last season until Oregon and Kansas State both got beat on the same weekend.

If they win the conference, yes.
If not, no.

Kansas only had one loss.

Nope, because their one loss will be in the SECCG when they get SPANKED by UF.

I'm not sure. It really comes down to who would get the nod over Alabama. Alabama has needed other teams to lose the past 2 seasons in order to make it to the BCS National Title Game. Last year, we could have had an Oregon/Notre Dame matchup. If SEC fatigue was strong enough and Ohio State wasn't on probation, then it could have been Notre Dame/Ohio State. In 2011, Alabama needed Oregon to lose to U.S.C. and Oklahoma State to lose to Iowa State along with questionable voting.

I believe we had the best team in 2009, 2011, and 2012, but it was only truly proven in 2009 when we went 14-0 and played one of the best teams out there in undefeated Texas versus an overrated Notre Dame last year. If we beat ourselves again this year, then this dynasty really isn't all that lustrous.

On another note, let's not forget that Florida State and Miami were close to 2 or 3peating during the early years of the BCS. Florida State played in 3 consecutive BCS title games from the 1998-200 0 seasons and lost the 1st and 3rd appearance by 7 and 11 respectively. Additionally, Miami had a claim to Florida State's spot in 2000 and was a heartbreaking call away from beating Ohio State in 2002.

I recognize that Florida State and Miami didn't play in leagues as strong as today's SEC, but nobody should drool over Alabama's recent success when others have come close to achieving the same feats a little over a decade ago.
