In a matter of 5 seconds. I did the second half to prove your ignorance
Cool.
Pelini still insisted on playing tight man coverage the vast majority of the time despite it clearly not working.
What are you not understanding here?

I'm disputing the fact that the majority of your fan base thinks pelini didn't try other things. Y'all just have a crappy coach.

You're disputing something that no one is saying.
People are aggravated because he insisted on playing tight man over and over.

Well he clearly didn't adjust at halftime, even he admits this.

quote:Jeez man. Why would a championship winning HC sacrifice wins to "build" for the next season in the opening game vs an SEC opponent on his own field? No one knows what the future holds, so you better be playing to WIN every time you put your guys on the field.
It would suck for a fan to watch it, but if you're a coach making changes or building, it might be a gift.
Players will always try to win, but coaches want to build long-term. LSU can get smoked for half the season, then by the end of the year the defense might be pretty strong, and you go into 2021 as a contender.
I said I wasn't trolling or making excuses. I'm wondering, is there any other reason you don't change your pass defense scheme, before your opponent gets 600 yds on you?

Yeah: your coaches and players are shite. Pretty simple.

Does thinking that your team "didn't care" make you feel better about them?
Personally, I would much rather have my team care and just make mistakes than have them not care. Because if they don't care (like what we're seeing now with some upperclassmen at FSU, or how UT was at the end of the Lyle era) it's usually indicative of culture problems, which are much more serious and deeply rooted. And when apathy sets in, things go south quick... so if you're right that LSU just doesn't care, then they will go 5-5 or worse this season.

Yeah his defensive play calling was extremely obvious thus we could adjust on the fly. He didn't play tight man coverage every down. In fact the drive I'm talking about he called multiple zone defenses. That's why leach is good and LSU sucks. Your players didn't know where to defend.

You’re one game into the season and already thinking about punting to 2021?

It's playing out like I thought it would. A few teams will be hyper-on-point because they are extremely well coached programs, and a lot of other teams will sleepwalk their way through the season. I'm going to acknowledge the champ just like any other year but I'm not going to draw definitive conclusions on teams that are out of whack. Especially teams with new coaches or second year coaches.

That makes sense... at 400 yds. MF threw for over 600. Alltime SEC record. State isn't full of future NFL HOFers on offense.
You could pull the plug on the defensive scheme and go straight prevent late in the 3rd after LSU rallied, give up a ton of yards and probably get away with a W. Just tell them to play soft and keep it in front of them, and force them to drive down the field methodically.
But that wouldn't help the long-term plan, I guess.
Hey, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I know it's not a popular idea, and just to be clear I don't WANT to see LSU (or hell, anyone) approach an actual game like a damn scrimmage.
But this AIN'T a normal season, everything is weird across the board. There's going to be an asterisk on the season, no matter what shakes out. For everyone.

Thanks for making all LSU fans look like idiots
We weren't ready to play. MSU was. We had some guys missing that hurt but none of them play offense. We got embarrassed at home by a team we should have beaten by 2 touchdowns.
MSU is better than expected and we didn't take them seriously, end of story.

How can you see CEO allowing his players and coaches to have a defeatist attitude? Allow them to lay off and treat this season like a glorified scrimmage? He seems like the total opposite of what you're describing in your posts.

Neither Orgeron or Pellini scrapped the defensive gameplan when it was crystal clear it wasn't going to work, and the game was still completely in reach. We didn't get blown out, we were tied in the 4th quarter.
If you 100% want to win just that game, you fricking adjust and make State do something else.
If you want to "build the program", you stick to the script, and keep doing the same ole shite until you get it right.
What I'm saying is, LSU didn't sell out at the end, to try to steal that game when they could. They didn't get away from what they were trying to do, when everyone watching could see it wasn't working.
My interpretation is that Orgeron chose to focus on development, rather than winning a single game. Long term, it's probably the better move, if things don't collapse around him. I think this goofy year gives him the slack to do that, instead of playing game-to-game, THIS YEAR, and that's his approach right now.
Does that make any sense?

Two of the people you're referring to as LSU fans in this thread are Alabama fans.

Can you blame them? I'd want to switch too.
