but is Spurrier a better coach now than he was at Florida?

Yes, he's working wonders considering what he has to work with. If he were at a real school he'd have won a championship by now.

I am a college football fan - I honor and respect (and envy) the hell out of Bama's past. However, I'm also a Nick Saban fan - the man who says all that matters is the next game, not what you did last year, even last game, much less 50 ago. I'm not "denying" anything about Bama. I'm just saying that your claim that the reason for Saban's amazing success at Bama the last TWO seasons (and admittedly the shine was taken off last season somewhat because of the 2 losses at the end) is because of Bama's "tradition" is not accurate.

Great post.

I would add that tradition does help somewhat but only if it is mixed in with a helping of "done something lately"

It helps in developing an attitude with your team that they can't and should never be beat. It helps foster a team spirit that makes you think you can overcome anything.

I heard a story told by Pat Dye about Bryant. Bama was losing to some team they were playing at the half. The team went to the locker room and Bryant didn't show up.
The team waited and waited, still no Bryant. 2 minutes before the half was over, Bryant opened the door walked inside and said, "I'm looking for the Alabama Football team, If you see them tell them to meet me on the field for the second half"

Those "Tradition" things help.

Princeton has great tradition.
But they too have been shut out of the BCS.

You Gumps need to quit the boasting-it makes you guys look like USC fans. Have some class. Scoop can't do it all by himself.

Bahahahhahahahahha, this is fricking classic coming from a LSU fan, especially the one that is so scared of Saban he tried to start a rumor last year that he was going to UW. Eat it pimp. 2 in a row over the corn dogs and you know deep down in the pit of you fat gut that its going to get worse for you guys in that department before it gets better.

It's not boasting it's a fact and I am making a point. Saban is at the flagship program and he is just restoring it to it's rightful place atop the SEC. lsu had a few years of relevance thanks to Saban but they are heading back to mediocrity again as a middle of the pack team.

Saban is at the flagship program THAT EXISTS WITHIN GUMPS EMPTY HEADS and he is just restoring it to it's rightful place atop the SEC GOD WILLING INSHALLAH. lsu had a few years of relevance 9TH BEST PROGRAM IN HISTORY thanks to Saban AND MILES AND ALL THE ATTRIBUTES THAT MAKE LSU A GREAT PROGRAM but they are heading back to mediocrity again BASED ON BAMA HAVING TO CHEAT TO BEAT LSU as a middle of the pack teamIN THE TOP TEN.

SEC Ranter, do you ever wonder why the rest of the world doesn't know that LSU is 9th all time in what ever it is that Pimp is crying about? I do, do you?

You two Gumps are like Shiites in your inability to process any information that does not confirm your (yeah you two went to The University of Alabama...sure you did) football team's greatness. Turdition and all that....

"CNS will make us forget the greatness of CPBB by winning 200 consecutive SEC games, Inshallah."

"Behead the infidel, he questions our run of BCS national championships that have not yet occurred, Inshallah".

The irony is, Nick saban DETESTS people like you.

I think Florida may have something to say about that. Again, I'm not trying to take away anything that Bama was in the past. But until you do something to the contrary this year, claiming you're the "flagship" program is just an empty boast. Again, once you have the hardware, its different. Until then, you're over-stating your case.

This is a message board, not a chat room. Try to keep it below 20 posts a day. Or you can just keep saying the same thing over and over

I guess I could do the old I'm made of rubber you are made of glue, or pot meet kettle. Your inability to see LSU's historical mediocrity compared to Bama's, or better yet, your ability to deny what is happening right now in front of your face is fascinating.

But seriously, you say this about me because I think Les will lose more to Saban than he wins? Or you just don't like the shite thrown back at you?

I'm actually an alumni partner, but if SEC Ranter isn't, I like him even more than I already do, that means he chose to be a Bama fan.

i really think the NFL experience knocked him down a few notches, which he severely needed.

Now, the true test is see how he handles adversity after this success at bama.

You better do it this year, because next year-it's back to Earth. You are in year three with your Mohammed-like Coach and he has yet to win a championship. He did it at LSU in TWO years. Three is generally considered to be a higher number than two.

I like my odds with my damn strong football coach. Hell, last year you had to take our worst team Since Nick was our coach to overtime and this year you had to staff the officiating teams with Gumps.
