Those years are so wacky any way. usc, michigan, notre damn, and others have them though

No school should claim a title they weren't awarded by the AP or the Coaches.

I don't take such a hard line view. I have a problem with claiming championships that weren't awarded in the year which they are claimed. Something called the "College Football Thesaurus" awarding a championship ex post? I don't think so.

I don't think the issue is what a particular school claims. It's there school, they write there own book. After seeing this conversation for about 3 million times I've concluded that there is only conflict when there is an expectation that other fanbases are supposed to believe the tale. I've never seen anyone disagree with Bama's place in Soughern football, and by extension, CFB's place nationally. Let's put it this way, LSU was #1 in the 2011 Houlgate poll 2011 Houlgate If Boudreaux Atcheson placed this as a NC in 2012 SIG, wouldn't that be a bit odd?

That's where people are confused regarding our 4 Rose Bowl teams. They were all 4 named and celebrated as National Champs during those years. Parades, newspaper clippings saying they won the "National Grid Title" etc. UA just didn't recognize them for so long. If more people would actually take the time to do some research they would find that out for themselves.

My point is michigan claims 11 Titles. You said nothing but AP or Coaches should count. That would leave them with 2 I think. I just find that funny

Whatever fricking "system" was being used. I don't feel like looking that shite up. If you take away Alabamas 4 Rose Bowl teams, you have to take away every single one claimed. Any pre poll Title. That includes usc, michigan, notre damn, etc. You can't single out Alabama
ETA: and I will admit that I haven't done any research on pre poll systems in a long time.

Worked hard for no SEC West Championship OR SECCG appearance?
Bama fans think College Football is in upheavel if they aren't Champs.....:rightful place: so to speak.

Named by who?
1925: Alabama claims they "share" this one with Dartmouth. Who gave the Tide the title? Houlgate and Helms. Houlgate started his system in 1927. Wait a second—this means 'Bama won their 1925 national championship using a formula that didn't even exist until 1927? The other title giver, Helms Athletic Foundation, wasn't founded until 1941. Hmm, another mind-blowing retroactive scam.
1926: Alabama claims they "share" this one with three other teams with equal or better records. Once again, it is the Helms Athletic Foundation (founded in 1941) that "gives" Alabama this title. But wait, this organization wasn't formed until over 15 years later, right?
1930: The Parke Davis poll says that 'Bama tied Notre Dame for the national championship this year, but this was the only poll to award it to 'Bama. Meanwhile, Notre Dame was named national champion in six different polls. I thought there could only truthfully be one champion, but I guess I was wrong. Interesting fact: Parke Davis is another retroactive system. He (an individual, not an organization) didn't create his system until 1933—three years after the fact.
1934: Alabama says they share this title with two other teams. The title givers this time are Dunkel, Williamson, and Football Thesaurus. Dunkel was a fan—check that, fan—who came up with his own polling system. Williamson was a geologist who also came up with his own system. Football Thesaurus didn't even appear until 1946. Once again, 12 years later. Another title that should never have been claimed.

Wow! I was expecting this thread to turn into another UA/AU slugfest. Boy was I thrown a curve ball when it turned UA/LSU!
Color me surprised!

No one is singling out Bama. Petey started doing the same thing at USC. Again, celebrate your history, that's a good thing. I'm just saying if a Sooner comes on here and says "We have 17 NC's and you must accept this", well...he'll be responded to in the same way I would think.
