How many times did UofSC have a scheduling error involving the anthem this year? Because their coach said it was a team decision to skip/protest it.

quote:

The majority of our players has sat during the playing of the national anthem every game this season – a decision made by our players to bring awareness to racial injustice in our country. If opposing teams choose to play the anthem during the time we’re in the locker room, then we choose to stay in the locker room.

Ironically a fox new article is the 1st article that pops up on a search states that UofSC wasn’t present because of a scheduling issue.

quote:

Staley and South Carolina took some heat following Friday’s Final Four win over Louisville for the team not being on the floor for the national anthem. She said it was simply a timing issue.

I hate what this yankee nation has become and am vocal about putting it out of its misery via Balkanization. Skipping the anthem was just stupid. As athletes they made the tournament, the sports, and their host look back in a time when woman’s sports don’t need bad press. If they want to protest then do it on their time and dime.

11 pages of this nonsense is about the most off-season thing I've seen on the rant.

Take a break and ride over to the Poli where the bristled pig is starting multiple Q threads.

If a team protests the national anthem at a women’s basketball game, but no one was around to see it, did it every really happen?

But a lot of people criticizing Staley care more about them not coming out for the National Anthem, than they ever have about Jan. 6th.

FTR, I think those that participated in Jan. 6 should face the top penalties available. I will say the actions should carry consequences and words should, too, but obviously to a lesser degree.

quote:

And people will deflect and say it’s a long time ago, or what about the BLM protests? Which will have nothing to do with my point. I get people arguing that not standing for the National Anthem is disrespectful of America. But if that’s your take, it needs to be consistent across the board.

I agree. I think the people that were violently protesting in support of BLM should face consequences as well as the Jan 6th protesters. I think we have the right to protest PEACEFULLY.

quote:

Smokeyone yesterday was arguing that athletes should be held to a different standard than the crowd for the National Anthem, as if we aren’t all Americans.

I saw that and have mixed feelings about his thoughts. I do think that athletes represent a school and can be held to a different standard, but that's up to the school.

quote:

I stop what I’m doing. I take my hat off. I stand for the flag. But if people are going to be mad at Dawn (again, not saying this is you) than people need to be consistent about it.
I am not "mad" at her, so much as disappointed. I do tend to feel that one job of a coach is to teach sportsmanship, civility and respect for authority within the bounds of moral and ethical guidelines. I also agree that people should be consistent.

I get why people protest against police brutality. I think any individuals caught should be punished with a loss of job and/or prosecution if the enforcers of the law is shown to have violated the law. I know it happens and it happens probably more than many of us realize. I do not think it is a part of "whiteness", "Privilege" or "systemic racism". I do think any time humans are involved you will always have exceptions to the rule that take advantage of a position of authority and power....which is why we have Boy Scout leaders molesting, priest molestations, crooked cops, lawyers and judges etc.

It's no a sign that everybody is crooked so much as some are and definitely need to be weeded out...and if anyone is found to be protecting corrupt figures they should be weeded out, too.

BTW...I just saw you got a couple of down votes. I think you know me well enough to know that I always respect your opinion and did not down vote you.

3 of the 4 teams in the final 4 missed the anthem. They missed it because of a scheduling error and they were still doing their pregame.

That's ridiculous.

1. I'd like to see a link saying this.
2. If tree of them sat out the National Anthem, then all three should be criticized.
3. It doesn't help SC case when they admit they sat out the National Anthem (Or sat or knelt) all season long.

Honestly? I'm not sure there is a news source that is unbiased anymore. Not CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC or FOX News. Seems odd to me that you would single out FOX News. Are you insinuating that you trust the other news sources as fair and reliable news sources?
