At least Clemson and FSU make sense geographically and culturally. And their teams have had recent relevance, well FSU to a lesser extent- and both teams have huge spread out die hard fanbases, FSU a little moreso than Clemson.
TV markets geographically will also mean less over time as the industry moves toward streaming.

I don't like Clemson
I just don't think SCAR has enough sway to do anything about it. I like South Carolina people, but it's a boring school and a boring program. It's like A&M trying to keep out Texas, people are going to want to let the more fun, more controversial, more orange school in, if only for the drama.

It's not like UGA would have enough sway to keep GT out if the SEC decided to move in that direction so that's pretty much a moot point. I'm just glad that most of the SC fans are actually alumni compared to the majority of the UGA fanbase being sidewalk fans so I'll take the "boring" comment as a positive thing.

Clemson is easier to love or hate than South Carolina
The only time the conference gets amped up either way is when you guys periodically knock off UGA in some shitshow of a game.
Clemson is more interesting for better or worse.
