Do most players still use a mouth piece?

I remember some posters in our locker room showing busted teeth and mouth damage, and I always wore a mouthpiece.

I see the mouthpiece hanging down from face mask or somehow stuck in the helmet now on many plays for the skill players.

I assume the linemen all wear a mouthpiece. Is this just a thing with WR and QBs?

I thought there was some rule about “equipment” not properly worn that would disallow the mouth guard hanging freely from the face mask?

I’ve never seen anyone flagged for not wearing a mouthpiece. Maybe it’s optional?

They’re idiots if they don’t. I think most do though. You see them on the top of their helmets

According to the NCAA book mouthpieces are required. It’s generally not enforced tho. They also require knee pads but most players now don’t wear pants that come to the knee so knee pads aren’t enforced either.

As anal about player safety as they've gotten, it amazes me they will try to turn the game into flag football, yet not enforce these rules.

I hate seeing players, including WRs, wearing basically shorts with no pads.

I never wore a mouthpiece. Never even had one, so it didn’t dangle or whatever. Players have been skirting that rule for a long time now.

My friend is a referee and he said that in Missouri they are cracking down on pads that don’t cover the knee. It’s not a penalty, but the player is taken out of the game and can’t come back in until the knee is covered.

Mouth pieces are required by MSHAA. Mouth pieces are required for kids flag and youth football in Missouri too. Almost all schools sell cheap mouth pieces for $1 in the concession stand.

It is the rules that involve CTE that they will enforce. No players are suing the NFL or NCAA over having knocked out teeth or a broken knee cap.

That's because your mouthpiece was red and connected to a strap around your head..... and I believe they used on in Pulp Fiction. I'll let the board figure you out, LOL!!

Coach kicked our butts if the mouthpiece was not I. Place for any play, including practice. Running laps in August heat was a great deterrent!

the only injury they're even remotely worried about is CTE, everything else can also happen in most any other sport..contact or otherwise.

If he’s not making you open your mouth to check, he’d have never known. And if he’s making you open your mouth to check, that’s weird.

What position?

Genuinely curious.

I was always in the box so I wore a mouth piece religiously.

We’re you a QB, kicker, WR?

Played TE through college. Never played a down without a mouth guard in. If you played without one, you probably didn't play much.

Cuts down on injuries, including concussions. You see someone bite their tongue in half after a hit, I don't care how tough you think you are, you'll be wearing a mouth guard too.

Downvote?

That’s odd. This is just a thread about mouth pieces.

I guess some folks downvote every thread.
