War Memorial made sense back when it was 2 lane highway to Fayetteville and took forever to get there plus there wasn’t much of a local population there back then.

I-49 to I-40 has been open for traffic since 1998.

It hasn't made sense to play a single game in Little Rock since the 2001 stadium expansion took Razorback Stadium to 72,000. It seats over 76,000 now.

The Northwest Arkansas metro population has added 250,000 people since 2001. At least.

Completely untrue, but y'all keep saying shite like that.

This is Nutt era fiction, still making the rounds nearly 20 years later.

Back in the day it was a blast. We had the Miracle on Markham and at least one other big game that we won against you LSU boys. Y'all usually brought a lot of fans too and they were relatively well behaved.

Going back to the early 80's when I was there in school, it was a big social event as well. My wife and I got engaged the night before one game and all the people in our section, whether they knew us or not wanted to see the ring and were congratulating us. Tailgating was awesome on the golf course, great BBQ and all the fixins.

Although I'm not a Houston Nutt fan now, he really played up the Little Rock games as he was from there but after a few yankee coaches, eventually that angle fell out of favor (not really sure that made any difference but anytime I can blame something on the carpetbaggers, I do).

One big deal is that it's bad for recruiting as I believe it doesn't count as a home game. In fact, one year we played LA-Monroe or Lafayette and let them be the home team. Once we started playing A&M in Jerry's World, that meant on occasion we would have two games at "neutral" sites and really affected recruiting.

Anyway, I assume things were similar when Ole Miss used to play a bit in Jackson and Bama in Birmingham. Times they are a changing and we've got to get out of there and Dallas. Had we been home and away, we'd have won at least 1/4 of the games we've lost against the Aggies and probably even more but that's a topic for another day.

The ones who spend way too much time on the internet are convinced that they would be mugged and gang raped walking back to the car after the game.

The only thing I enjoyed about War Memorial was when we played LSU there the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Minimal interference with duck season.

Also, back in the day only Little Rock had lights for night games. If memory serves, Fayetteville didn’t get lights until late 80’s. If TV networks wanted a rare night game at Fayetteville back then they had to bring in lights.

There was a time when playing in Little Rock made a lot of sense. Those days are gone now.

Yeah, I’m ready for them to just do it so we can stop listening to all the pissing and moaning.

I don't think it was a fiction. It's probably gone or at least negligible now with the closed in end zone.

Regardless we don't play big games there anymore. There's no reason to play games in WMS for a marginally more hostile environment against Western Carolina, if that even exists anymore

It's not that it doesn't count as a "home game"...

It's just hard to show a kid a campus and the game when the two places three hours apart.

And at one point recently the NCAA passed a rule about not being able to "entertain" people past a 30 mile radius from your campus. So guess you could drive them to the game but you couldn't take them to any place in Little Rock to eat.

This is true. Before I-49 road was completed, the Hwy. 71 drive from Alma to Fayetteville could be slow and risky due to the mountainous terrain, especially during football weekends when there was much more traffic. And the old Pig Trail was even more dangerous. But both are very scenic drives when traveled during daylight hours.

Additionally, before the 1970's, the stadium in Fayetteville could only host daytime games. But these days, there is no comparison. Fayetteville is a much better venue.

I’ve been at some great games in Little Rock. The medical school is here and those students get tickets. At one time War Memorial held more people. Saw the Miracle on Markham, Mallett beating LSU, UK game when Mumme was there. Great atmosphere. Tailgating blows away lots of places. However its time has gone. More seats in Fayetteville and people aren’t gonna pay to watch us play UAPB in LR. Sad to see but time to move them all.

Made that trip with full blown mononucleosis back in 1986 chugging beers the whole way. Fun times.

My first game was Grovey vs. Ware. This is also the same day I knew I was an arse man. The honeys in front of me and my best friend lead us down the correct path. High scoring game lead to a lot of arse shakin

What are the odds Texas plays in little rock or in a NFL stadium instead of Fayetteville next year?

My guess is is would be zero odds of that happening unless it’s texas’ home game and they choose that for an nfl stadium and Little Rock is out of the question for Arkansas.

You saw what happened last time in Fayetteville, no way that game will be played anywhere else.
