they can't use any of the principle, and they'd be crazy to

but can't they spend out some dividends off the principle each year?

ETA: I"m pretty sure they can, and if you're a P4 with 9 billion, you should send some to football

So he lobbied the NCAA for another year of eligibility in order to negotiate a NIL package because he knows his days are numbered after college and wont hack in the NFL? Got it

Plus, he's probably responsible for the Vanderbilt pimp on SEC Shorts this year.

Probably?

Serious question...Can they afford that?

Vanderbilt has the #2 endowment in the SEC (A&M is #1). Vanderbilt's endowment is over 10x the Auburn endowment.

So, yes, they can afford it.

The endowment numbers show what they can pull in from donors. It's an indirect number to show how much money people are willing to contribute to the school.

Contributing to the general endowment to form a base for earnings to fund academic scholarships or building funds is very, very, very, very different than funding Diego Pavia's brothers from getting a new chain for him to play QB and lead the Dores to a 7-5 record next season.

No, they can't. Schools, at least for now, can't have any direct involvement in NIL payments.

As of today in Ohio they are now making direct NIL payments from schools to players.

Ohio lawmakers approve universities to make direct NIL payments to athletes

So if you've got 3 "business owner Vandy fans" who are going to send a million each to stadium improvements, then you do the 3 mill of improvements with the dividends instead, and ask those dudes to do a private million each to NIL

But, the Vandy alum I know (including my wife) have different priorities and don’t need or care about football validation.

I wish I could live in a world like this

I live in Nashville, and there was more Vandy gear worn the day after the Bama win than I’d seen in my whole time here. They seem to care when it’s cool

He's not worth it. Beating Bama will be his high point.

He cratered down the stretch big time.

SC defense literally broke him. He got tee'd off on so many times he had to be wheeled off the field.

This move could backfire. How many QBs actually brining in $3M? If they were to come up with the money someone is inevitably going to ask why don’t they just take the $3M and go buy the best QB in the portal.

Vanderbilt has a $9.7 billion dollar endowment. Not sure if the can use some of that for NIL.

You can’t be this stupid, can you?

You actually think schools can use their endowment for NIL?

Exactly.

He's not worth $3 million. He's probably worth $300k.

There are a dozen QBs, on the rack, worth more than him.

But he's a good fit for Vandy.

Someone is lying to his family and him about his market worth. It could be a major mistake. Vandy could pat him on the back and show him the door.
