Cam Ward is 22 years old.

Should be a grown man.

Should have sat out the entire game if he wasn't "in" to it.

In college its literally bags of cash, cars and pussy by rich boosters. It goes against everything college athletics preach they are for: teamwork, character, etc.

You realize a lot of players got these same perks before NIL.

Yes, they were called Auburn Tigers

I very much doubt that this was a surprise to the coaches. He played in a meaningless bowl game instead of opting out and the same people bitching about it would have been fine with it last year when others opted out.

Agreed, he's a grown man.

And my first post said I don't know why he didn't sit the entire game. So I can sorta agree he should have sat the entire game.

Of course, that would have hurt his teams chances even more however.

Convo probably was similar to this.....

Coach.....you are a top 5 draft pick, you should seriously consider sitting out

Player....yeah Coach, thanks for the advice and looking out for me. I really want that NCAA record though.

Coach....Well, I think you should sit it out but if you really want to go for the record let's do it

Player.....thanks Coach

Teammates......QB1 is starting and going for the record.....hell yeah my man...let's do this

Meaningless to him, maybe. However, what about those Miami players who aren't going to the NFL and are playing in the last game of their lives?

I don't think it's meaningless to them.

I think you’re right. Were I a fan of Miami, I’d be disgusted to find that the coaches had lobbied me to travel, buy tickets, attend the game, knowing all along that their plan didn’t include doing what it takes to win.

There’s a word for that-fraud.

That's from the entitled butt hurt fans.

Not the teammates and coaches I assure you.

I agree with you about the negative effect of the coach's decision to leave abruptly. He too is responsible. It just reinforces my gloomy outlook for the college game. Money rules. Also, I recognize that players have skipped bowl games for the past several seasons; but with the advent of NIL and the relaxed rules for transferring, avoiding bowl games or the playoffs is now on steroids.

I don't either and, obviously, it wasn't meaningless to him since he didn't opt out.

Oh, bye the way, you didn't care when most of FSU's starters opted out last year so why the emotions when their NFL draft QB only plays a half? The hypocrisy on thus board never disappoints.

.

He may have simply told his head coach he wasn’t going back in for less that 25K

Cam is willing to risk his NFL career for a personal record, but not for his commitment to his team mates, coaches and his school?

All or nothing. imo.

But, I understand it's all business now.

He didn't go to UM for the teammates, coaches or school.

That's why UM sucks.

I appreciate the kind response.

I, too, don't care for all the money driving the world.

It's worse than ever but let's be honest, money has been the center of sports for as long as I can remember and I'm approaching 50.

Salaries, stadiums, 100k to high school coaches.....on and on.

Envelopes filled with cash. Cars. Hookers. It's been bad for a long long time.

Reading this and other threads raise some good questions as to when (if ever) it is ok to quit on your team for your own personal financial reasons. Seems like people are not consistent in their views. Presumably people would be fine if Cam quit before the game or maybe a few games ago or maybe last year foregoing whatever eligibility he had left (just take your pick as to the timing). FWIW, as a fan (yes I’m selfish, too, equality and all you know), quitting in any of those scenarios is not ok with me-that player will always have an * by their name.

He played until he got the record, then he sat himself. The dude played for himself and not his teammates. Once he had what he wanted he quit on them.

I did actually. It was a chicken shite move to rage quit like that after failing to make the CFP. That program got what it deserved as a result - the worst beating in post-season history and a 2-10 season to follow it all up.
