Yeah, guess so. Which is why I have two posts about them in 4 days. One of which is asking why they are so damn dumb.

Sullivan had better stats in '70 but finished 6th, when a good argument can be made that he deserved to win...yet he wins his Senior year in '71 with less impressive stats than the year before...Greg Pruitt was a Junior in '71, rushed for 1700 yards, averaged something like 9 yards a carry, and finished 3rd...the next year as a Senior, Pruitt had 'bout half the yards and finished 2nd... The Heisman seems to have been slanted more towards Seniors and overall careers back in the day...

Back then the Heisman was a career achievement award.

Yes Ingram would have won. He was the Heisman front runner going into the Iron Bowl (which is when the 1971 voting happened).

He did not become the favorite until after the SECCG. Most thought he had lost it in the IB.

I'm a big Ingram fan and think he was a worthy winner in '09...but there is no way he would've won in '71...Juniors rarely won and Sophomores NEVER won back then...and Pruitt's rushing stats were superior to his as well (not only more rushing yards but almost 3 more yards per carry)...

11/30 HeismanPundit.com poll (week after Iron Bowl) Mark Ingram was #2 to Colt McCoy
11/24 HeismanPundit.com poll Mark Ingram was #1
11/17 HeismanPundit.com poll Mark Ingram was #1
11/10 HeismanPundit.com poll Mark Ingram was #1
11/3 HeismanPundit.com poll Mark Ingram was #1
10/27 HeismanPundit.com poll Mark Ingram was #1

Point being....Mark Ingram was the favorite before the Iron Bowl.

I was meaning he would have won in 2009 if voting was still done like 1971 (voting was over before the Iron Bowl that year). I do not believe Pat would have won in 1971 had voting not been done until after the regular season like it is done now.

Before the BCS era the SEC was largely overlooked by the national pollsters and voters in a lot of ways, in favor of yankee schools.

The Heisman has almost always been more about politics and dog and pony show than anything.

Also true. That's why OSU had 6 and ND had 7, while the entire SEC had 7 before the BCS.

Stiffarmtrophy.com is the most accurate site because they use actual voters as their sample. Ingram was behind Toby Gerhart the last part of the season.

I'm sure Ed Marinaro would have beaten him out.

So does Heisman Pundit.

Congratulations on having a coaching staff that didn't care if they lost the game as long as the shut down Ingram. Auburn put a spy on Ingram every time he was in the game, and Jim McElwain kept running right at him instead of exploiting it.

The Heisman should really be given out after the nc game. Think of how many years the heisman winner sucked arse in the nc game.

Yeah you do know Pat only beat him by 152 points right? That's not that big of a margin.

Agreed.
And Ingram still would have won in 2009. No way Troy Smith wins with the largest margin of victory in 2006 though
