They may have early, but they wanted to go heavy on infielders in that class and only signed one OF (Mahtook).

No offense, but hasn't Coach Jim Wells done well in recruiting guys from Louisiana? He is from the state, and has very strong ties. One of the better known guys like Wade LeBlanc comes to mind. I'm not very familiar with baseball recruiting, just wondering.

don't forget Beau Herrod.

Also, Dugas is supposed to be a stud. His high school teammate (Alex Fuselier) is the Friday night starter for ULL now after he beat LSU mid-week, and he plays in the outfield and will DH on occasion. Like Dugas he is also a true freshman.

I'd imagine baseball is much like football for LSU recruiting in terms of the state. A.K.A. we pretty much get everyone we want as most are huge LSU fans in LA.

yep, Bama gets some guys from louisiana because of wells, but theyre rarely people we went after. LSU has better tradition, facilities, and a much bigger name and fan base in baseball. we recuit nationally in baseball as well, so we dont go after everyone in the state.

Jim Wells had a nice little run in LA by offering guys more scholarship money than LSU was offering with TOPS.

I didn't say always. No one locks down their state completely year in and year out.

the question is not meant as trash talk. I am just pleasently suprised with his batting and fielding. I know baseball is tricky because they divide up scholarships.

I've wondered the same thing Tusk. I've seen a couple of Alabama games this year and he has done well coming in as a freshman.
