Did Alabama recruit Bediako?

Wouldn't that be "deliberately recruiting pro athletes"? I heard there's a lawsuit about this today

There are professional basketball players on nearly every basketball roster in the league. Alabama brought in Bediako from the G-league (after Baylor added a G-league player) for 3 games until the SEC ruled him ineligible.
Rather than sue the conference over the decision, Alabama then removed Bediako from the roster.
The conference has made it clear that if you signed a contract with an NFL team, you are not eligible to play in the SEC. The Big 10 has a similar rule.
Think of it like trailer you rent. If you put up mossy oak wallpaper in your bedroom, and then the landlord says that's not allowed, take it down...well if you then go slap it up in the living room too you shouldn't be shocked when the eviction notice gets taped to your door.

Had anybody other than Lane Kiffin been your coach, nobody probably says much to you either. Hiring a person who creates more drama than he's worth has drastic consequences.

Correct. Bama actually played the guy. LSU hasn't played anyone, yet they're being sued because they recruited them.
Didn't Bama recruit Bediako? How did he end up there?

This is a completely different situation. Players are fighting for a 5th year of eligibility after the NCAA changed the rules AFTER they declared and signed contracts. These are rules that the SEC, as an NCAA member institution must follow. If a court rules in favor of the players playing, the SEC must allow them to play.

I believe that the allegation isn't that your head coach recruited nfl players...it's that he encouraged them to sue the SEC and NCAA so he could then officially recruit them.

Bediako only played college basketball at Alabama, I'm not sure what you're asking. Did Wright and Harris play at LSU last year?

I'm saying Alabama didn't break a rule. When the rule was swiftly put in place, he was removed from the roster.
LSU hasn't broken a rule yet, but encouraging kids to sue your conference so you can get their rule abolished is a pretty dangerous game
LSU has taken a pretty point blank stance.
"We aren't going to break any rules. But, we are going to encourage these guys to sue you so we can get the rule we don't like abolished. We are innocent though, because we haven't broken a rule."

Why would they recruit him? He played there. It's not like he played for Ole Miss, went to the pros and then just decided, yeah Bama is where I want to go. Makes you wonder about Wright now, huh?

It looks like they're suing because LSU recruited Harris and Wright, but if that's true, it would seem selective given Bama recruited Bediako (and other schools recruited Harris and Wright, other schools recruited European pros, etc).

Wouldn't they have re-recruited him in 2026? I'm sure there was contact somehow between the Bama coaching staff and the player.

Since he got cut (I guess. I'm not really sure about his situation) he might have seen the numerous European pros now on CBB teams and thought, hey it's worth a shot. And after being denied, he didn't play anymore. And the Bama basketball program was drug for the 3 games he did play in.

I do find it a bit appalling that the SEC more or less sat back and watched Bama do this with very little pushback.
Both instances are absolutely horrific and should never have been tolerated.
