I think it's amusing that this thread devolved because LSU fans utterly REFUSE to accept there's a good player on Alabama's team. One LSU fan literally just made a compliment to an Alabama WR and other LSU fans LOST THEIR shite at that concept.

I mean, I was that fan. I think Devonta Smith is a great WR. I think LSU and Alabama had an embarrassment of riches at WR last year, but I have no idea how Ruggs is a top 15 pick and Smith is coming back for another year.

Yea, don't disagree. Ruggs is a good receiver who has legitimate world class sprinters speed. Now, unlike a lot of guys like that, he is tough as shite, blocks and runs through guys, but his other "receiver skills" aren't on the same level as Jeudy, DeVonta, Waddle, Chase, Jefferson, etc.

However, he has world class speed and very solid receiving skills and is physical........that gets you a lot of money.

Smith's draft grade wasn't quite as high, probably due to a few factors:

1. A fairly loaded WR class this year (not that next year's is going to be light)
2. Playing in the shadow a bit of Jeudy.
3. Ruggs is ABSURDLY fast. He ran a 4.27 40. Smith, by contrast, ran a low of 4.42. Still very fast, but Ruggs will blow the doors off of almost any corner. His speed will demand deep coverage and safety help, even in the pros.

How much safety help is Ruggs seeing when he is play next to Jeudy a majority of snaps?

I get your point, but Smith seems to have no problem blowing by corners.

Even thought one of his long TDs against LSU was when y'all caught are defense flatfooted, the last TD was just him running by man coverage.

Y'all are also overlooking Ruggs' value as a kick returner. He'd probably be a 1st rounder because of that!

You can pretend it's not a turnover when the punter fumbles the snap all you want. The end result is 40-50 yards of field position, so that's a pretty big deal.

I don't have to pretend it wasn't a turnover because it literally wasn't a turnover.

Just because you have up 40-50 yards doesn't mean its a turnover.

Are you retarded?

People don't draft returners in the first round.

Waddle will be a first rounder based on his return ability alone

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Resorting to a moral victory in a game that wasn't as close as the score indicates.

A fumble is literally a turnover, genius.

Are you retarded? His kick return prowess along with his receiving skills should make him a solid 1st rounder.
By the way, have you ever heard of Desmond Howard from Michigan (1991 Heisman Trophy winner and 4th overall pick of the '92 draft)?
Here's how he's described: "Howard was known mostly as a return specialist but also played wide receiver."

Now run along you fricking clown.

Correct.

Only if the other team recovers though.

That isnt what you said though. You said he'd be a first rounder because of his kick return skills.

I know you feel clever as frick right now but the rules have changed since then, thus diminishing the importance of returners.

Too bad it wasn't a fumble.

What was it then?

Name the last player drafted in the first round because of their return skills.
