I'd honestly be surprised if we offered that much, given there's been some knock on Pope in the portal not wanting to get into bidding wars with players. I also don't think we're spending that much for a roster as a whole. Probably closer to $10-12.
That said, we were looking for a shooter and with Pope's substitution patterns he'll get decent PT.
I do have to laugh at some of our fans (not any here I believe) that were in full on panic mode three days into the portal being open that Pope wouldn't put together a decent roster.

He is a solid shooter, defender, and has the confidence to make a play when the team might need him to.
Early in the season he was a bit slow with making decisions on what to do with the ball and held onto it too long, dribbling a lot, and then either turning it over or taking a stupid shot that misses. Makes me wonder how he'd do with more on his shoulders and having to distribute/shoot more often than he did last season coming off the bench.

Yeah, that was funny. Anyone by now who doesn't know that Pope knows what he is doing is just too blind to see it.

UK gonna pay Aberdeen 2 mil to be a bench player and play 15 mins a game?
Doesn't sound logical. But I guess if UK is actually spending 20+ mil on its roster it's certainly possible.

He'll play a combo of 1/2. So he's going to get plenty of minutes. Pope also utilizes subs quite a bit, so it'll be more like a platoon.

The Craft's came back into play after Cal left and basically wrote Pope a blank check. That said, there's some hub bub that Aberdeen may have felt slighted by what y'all paid Lee.

My Kentucky friend said Pope is killing it in recruiting. I laughed and said it’s not really recruiting anymore. It’s players going to the highest bidder. We may never know who the best coach at recruiting is anymore. These kids are gonna go to whatever school pays the most.

Yea, sorry Denzel, but that's one of the few schools where the narrative is no longer "I'm not happy but I can't hold a grudge for the kid chasing the money" and is now "he's dead forever to the fanbase"

And, to be clear, I think Aberdeen is a very good player who'll be good for UK. He's never been the main guy but there's nothing theoretically holding him back from a size, athleticism, or skill level from being a top-level college guard
UF will be okay -- Lee is a star, Klavzar is going to be a deadly scorer, UF has some other young talent, and I'm sure we'll add another guard -- but this does sting because Aberdeen was a real "developmental" player and UK is going to get his best
