DeMeco Ryans is the real deal

It's unlikely that he would leave the NFL at this stage of his career, but I wonder if Alabama even tried to have a serious discussion with him about the job.

He did not get a phone call along with Dabo, Lane and Kelly.

Yeah. You would know.

And you definitely wouldn't. Your point, hot rod?

I'm sure he was a consideration - it would be idiocy if he wasn't at least a name on a board - but the Texans' playoff schedule and Alabama's need to hire a coach quickly probably prevented any deep talks between his agent and Alabama.

That's true. I'm just really impressed with what he has done with that team in such a short amount of time.

Don't know why he would be interested in college ball. Can he recruit? Does he like to recruit? Does he want to spend twice as much time away from family coaching college kids as opposed to pros?
He's already the head coach at an organization that drafted him and where he had his best years as a player. Fans loved the guy before he got there. And he already has his franchise QB in his first year. Which is everything at that level. DeMeco Ryans has a lot invested where he is. Just like Ozzie Newsome was a great GM for the Ravens for so many years.

This is a difficult thing for the low IQ's and have-nots to understand. Nice of you to explain it for them.

Yes, but the parity in the NFL and having a QB like Stroud really helps.
I do believe Ryans will have long term success in the NFL. I'm glad he is coaching in the AFC and not the NFC.

He's only coached in the NFL, only has interest in coaching in the NFL. Why wouldn't you if you've got the X's and O's chops? The NFL off-season is a real off-season for the coaches and not just a transition to primary roster management duties like in college. The NFL has execs and staff to handle the roster and the HC doesn't have to be involved much in the process.
Edit: Also, NFL coach contracts have strict tampering penalties on the coaches. You practically cannot talk to a coach under contract without seeking permission from the franchise. This was not happening as long as Ryans was in the playoff hunt. Alabama was not waiting weeks to make this hire just to hear Ryans say no when he's publcily said he has no college coaching interest already.

All this...frankly HOU is also good enough to make a deep run the way Stroud has been playing.
