According to this theory, Jimmy Sexton orchestrated this whole charade...

Deboer interviewed while they were in Houston, prior to the national championship game...Lanning, Sark and Norvell names floated to get sizable raises.

Masterful job by Sexton if true.. would certainly explain how quickly the deal was finalized

Sexton played everyone like a fiddle. First he floats Lanning, Sark and that other fig as candidates and renegotiates ALL their deals, only AFTER they all get raises does he let Boner sign. That is what all of the waiting was for was Sexton putting their names out to the media, quickly getting new extensions, then letting Boner sign after the appropriate delay. Sexton is a giant piece of shite but we should all want him to be our agent. Cutthroat mutherfricker.

Joel klatt wrote an article saying this. The timing and quickness of the hire lends to it being true.

Nice of them to give Saban the option of retiring instead of being forced out.

Could it be that Saban orchestrated the whole thing? I don't believe for a minute that he didn't keep Byrne in the loop about the possibility of his retirement

Ooof. Interviewing for another job right before playing for a Natty. No wonder his team played like shite and lost by 3 touchdowns.

Also pokes a hole in the "Saban was just working hard, planning for 2024 and 5 minutes before his team meeting decided to call it quits" narrative.

This makes me wonder if after losing to Michigan Saban might have said something to Byrne to the effect of "you might want to look at your coaching list, I'm not sure I have another season in me". And that got the ball rolling.

Of course he did!
This isn't the first time this situation has occurred.
Follow along:
Saban to Byrne
Byrne and Saban to Sexton
Sexton to the coaches....and away be go!

I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Love him or hate him...Sexton is the absolute best in the business. I heard him at a sports festival in Nashville in 2013. Crazy thing...the Music City Sports Festival...I sat there with only 15-20 other people for two hours and for 30 minutes each heard Jimmy Sexton, Kirby Smart, Chance Warmack, and Chipper Jones. It was like $5 to get in, and there was almost no one there. Very informal, Q&A, get photos afterwards. Listening to Sexton was fascinating. His very first client was Reggie White, his roommate at Tennessee.

Sexton controls coaching hires, and raises throughout the SEC and even some outside of the SEC.

How does it poke holes in anything? Jimmy Sexton inquiring the interest Kalen Deboer might have if Saban decides to retire? And Saban not being SURE up until 5 minutes before he told the team. As everyone noted, he had interviewed a WR coach right before the decision. Sounds like he was working. Maybe the receivers coach asked Saban how long he planned to coach because he didn't want to be looking for a job next year or the next. And it "clicked" when he couldn't assure the guy that he would be there.

This is what he’s supposed to do. That’s why the big names pay him big money. They can’t all get the same job, but if he can get all of his clients raises and elevate one up the ranks by placing him in the job he keeps everyone paid and happy including himself.

Anybody that’s not a total fricking idiot knew Sexton was doing his thing Wednesday through Friday.

I understand how that might have gone over 98% of this boards head.
