David Langner story: while a student at AU, Supposedly he and Robin Cary, UA DB and punt returner, became friends working at the same car dealership during the summer. Cary also played CF for the UA baseball team.

In the series at AU, Before the bottom of the 7th inning, Carey loaded his back pockets with baseballs and after the third out, he fired every one of them at the AU fans in center field who had unmercifully heckled him throughout the series.

The hecklers and some of their supporters gathered outside the UA dressing room waiting for Carey. In the meantime, Langner shows up at Carey's dressing area with a six pack of beer. After they consumed the six pack, Carey and Langner walked out of the dressing area for the UA team bus and supposedly when the crowd saw Langner , it parted like the Red Sea did for Moses. Neither Langner or Carey suffered as much as a cross word.

RIP David Langner

My dad was at the game and said it was the ultimate "steal" game of all time. Auburn's D was stout and held Alabama's O in check. Having said that, Alabama's defense dominated Auburn's offense holding Auburn's offense to a field goal and less than 100 yards total. My dad left with the score Alabama 16-3 when Auburn blocked two straight punts for touchdowns. An absolutely stunning turn of events and one of the legendary games in the Alabama/Auburn rivalry.

Sad news, indeed. Prayers to the family.

It was refreshing seeing other fans showing respect about this. Thank you to those having sympathy and class. It is much appreciated.

Here's the youtube video

A few things I have always noticed about the video:

- the woman yelling in the background during the call of the 2nd touchdown
- The pissed off cop beside the endzone putting his helmet back on after the 2nd score

ETA: Lots of unhappy folks in the background of this picture:

Hate to hear of his passing. As an MSU fan , I have never heard of this game until now. Even being an old guy, I was pretty young when it was played. Thanks for sharing it. Very cool story and part of the great history that is SEC football.
