OU is not Purude and Mayfield finished 5th in the Heisman voting

How many times was Mayfield sacked at OU? Etling was sacked 42 times at Purude [sic]. He was literally running for his life. It won't take much for the LSU line to give him a better chance to play well.

Things I'm more worried about before Etling:
1. Playcalling, when Les takes over, and he did it again against JSU after the 1st half, things just goes to shite

2. OL, can they actually pass pro for Etling...still working out things there

3. Receivers, can they fricking catch the football consistently? Dupre has been by far the worst, having 4 or 5 drops this year.

When Etling had the time against JSU, he pretty much delivered. I dont know if that's how he'll always be, but he put the ball on the money more times than not. Dealt with 3 drops which is really bad in just 14 throws, but definitely played with more confidence than I've seen from an LSU QB since Mett.
LINK

First throw was dropped by our 6'7 TE, hits him right in the facemask. 3rd throw gets flat dropped by Dupre, awful, awful play by Dupre. Very easy ball to catch with great touch. Bounces back to make some nice throws in the 1st half that are finally caught. 2nd half, Miles takes over play calling, things all went downhill.

He is a better passer then Harris so that should help but it's also not saying much.

LSU just needs a guy to settle down the offense and distribute the ball to their playmakers.

Sometimes dropped passes are just a result of unfamiliarity with the QB. Once the chemistry improves. The concentration improves. Need reps together just to be a little more automatic. Takes the "thinking to much" aspect out of catching. Telling probably is not an elite QB. But I get it. Harris has been lost. You can't be lost as a QB. LSU doesn't need tom Brady to be successful. Yes I'm sure they'd like an elite QB. As a State fan, this is probably a good game for him. Unless we can put pressure on him, he will probably do fine. State is still weak in the secondary. USA QB looked like a hall of famer. LSU has talented receivers. I hope we go all out to test his moxy by putting a relentless rush on him.

Which is exactly what Etling did Saturday. I don't give a shite who we were playing. We've been having trouble doing that against air. Once Etling got in he got the ball to 6 different receivers. Harris usually gets it to 2 or 3.

He looked good until he started going deep too much which resulted in too many incompletions. I'm not sure if it was him choosing to do so or the play design though. I'm leaning towards the latter because it's what plagued Harris.

The difference between the two is Etling is much more accurate and has better pocket awareness. Harris has much more arm strength and is better at making plays with his feet.

We will see how it goes.

Poor play design, they want to push the ball down the field, even if it's not there. I cant tell you how many times we've thrown the Dupre route (the post to the endzone) and it's ended badly for us. they put WAY WAY too much trust in Dupre and it's bit us in the arse this year (and previously) too much. Etling had 100 yards worth of drops in the game against JSU, pretty telling.

Looks a lot better when you go 9/14 for 200+ yards than 6/14 for 100. 3 drops doesnt kill you when you go 20 for 29. It does when you go 6/14.

Look, all LSU needs is a QB with the label of "not retarded" and y'all will be fine. A breakdown is not necessary

Did I fall into a coma and miss the announcement that LSU got a new OC?

Because y'alls problems on offense span multiple seasons and multiple QBs. I'm not saying y'all shouldn't be optimistic about the new guy but until y'all get rid of the guy calling the plays.........

It's so much fun around here when LSU folks are re-energized about their football team. I was afraid that we were gonna all be robbed of their annual November melts.

I'm trying to be optimistic, but I highly doubt Miles and Cam accept that Etling isn't going to blow the top of the defense too often and let him play within his skillset.

Etling seems capable of doing what Harris couldn't on the short/intermediate routes. At least from what we saw Saturday.

The jury is still out as far as I'm concerned. We haven't seen one entire game with Etling. He seemed capable and confident. But the opponent had no film on him and we need to see how he does against a couple of conference opponents with good defenses.

some of us don't think its Cam. Les gets too involved.

Nobody really knows who calls these repeat runs into 10 man fronts or 2 receiver routes
