I am sure Mullen meant it as a manner of affection since that what a mascot name is to mean.

As much as I hate Ole Miss, I have to side with them on this one. It is fine (and fun) for fans to say things like that but I believe it is unprofessional for the coach to do so. I felt the same way when Les referred to Arky as Ar-Kansas a couple of years ago. I believe that is being disrespectful of your opponent.

Mullen calling Ole Miss the Black Bears is no different than calling them the Rebels. Stop acting like he called you some insulting or derogatory name. Ole Miss elected to keep the name Rebels while adopting a new on-field mascot which has nothing to do with the "name" and traditional mascot of the Rebel.

If Black Bears fans don't want people to call them that, drop the mascot. Otherwise, those that complain sound ridiculous.

You should tell Dan Jones that him and Boone are the ones wanted the Black Bear as the mascot.. I have not seen one Ole Miss fan that wanted that dumb mascot!!

I like it. He is making us hate state more when it comes to this the egg bowl and it is getting both teams fired up...I expect a very heated game this weekend

so you've heard a coach speaking at a press conference calling Miami the pelicans, Stanford the trees, UNC the rams, or Alabama the elephants?

Ole Miss brought this ridicule upon themselves. I feel sorry for the fan base.

The only Ole Miss fans that are bothered are the ones who are too dumb to not laugh off poorly executed attempts at ridicule. The lack of sophistication among the posters on this board is glaring.

I also expect this kind of thing from the coach who thinks TSUN is clever.

The difference being that Les didn't do it to talk shite imo. He actually called us Ar-kansas.

I just don't understand. Most schools like their mascots. If someone called us the "Bullies" wouldn't bother me a bit.

Here is the way I see it, not that anyone gives a damned. Ole Miss changed their name from the Rebels to the Black Bears. Did you mind it when people referred to you as the Rebels? Your team name AND your mascot is the Black Bears. Our team name AND our mascot is the Razorbacks, I am perfectly fine with us being referred to as that...overjoyed even. Alabama is the Crimson Tide, but they have a mascot that is an elephant. They take no offense to being called Crimson Tide, but to call them by their mascot name is kind of goofy. I've also never heard the Buckeyes get called Brutus officially.

If you guys don't like being called the Black Bears, you shouldn't have changed your team name to that.

So does it bother you or not?

That statement says it may.

What he said doesn't surprise me. If he wants to be one of those coaches that refuses to respect other teams, then that's on him.
