I mean sure, but getting past Purdue and UVA is no small task.
The year prior the bracket broke open for us so that was imo our best opportunity. We were also playing pretty well.

I mean if sweet 16’s and Elite 8’s are the goalposts there in Knoxville then Barnes is your guy! Anything more than that seems to be a pipe dream with him at the helm. I have 2 decades worth of examples to go back and forth with you about.

We had Purdue beat, that phantom 3 point shot foul at the buzzer killed us in that game. We would've beaten UVA. Rick Barnes style matched up perfectly with Tony Bennetts.

No I agree with you. Solid coach. Solid program but if Barnes has never broken through and got to a final four by now then he never will. Just has to be exhausting if I was a fan.

I said nothing about Wade hahaha. Yes, Barnes has been more successful. I would crawl on broken glass to make it to a second weekend right now. Doesn’t mean anything I said about cocktease Rick isn’t true.

Bama had a shot to make it really close.. They are better but Oats had them playing his pace and we went cold at a bad time. Mara was sucking eggs at the half.
It would have taken us shooting well and Bama did not have a good shooting game . Make them keep playing that first half pace and they might have run out of gas.

2018: Loyola Chicago (final 4 team)
2019: Purdue (Elite 8 team)
2021: Oregon State (Elite 8 team)
2022: Michigan (Sweet 16 team)
2023: FAU (final 4 team)
2024: Purdue (final 4 team) Natty runner up
2025: Houston (final 4 team) Natty runner up
2026: Michigan (final 4 team)
2022 and 2019 are the two worse losses that are hard to explain. Its not like we are losing to scrubs. 2021 Oregon State won their conference tournament and Tennessee lost John Fulkerson right before the game, our best player, via Florida breaking his face. Barnes gets too much hate in March.

Idc if they lost Fulky in 2021. That team with Springer/Johnson was just bad. If we beat Oregon State they would’ve just lost the next game.
2019 wasn’t that hard to explain, imo. Painter is a better Xs and Os guys than Barnes and that insurance salesman hit about 9 contested 3s that game.

The point is that we haven't lost to bums in the tournament. 5 out of our 8 losses have been to a final 4 team. Theres a ton of luck that goes into March basketball and we have had some bad luck with our draws

That's where it would have helped to have Holloway who averages 17ppg and shoots it at 48% for the season and 43% from 3 point land. He messed his teammates and himself up. Philon kind of had to do everything and didn't have much help. I guess Philon made himself some money tho.
