Why are UGA fans so obsessed with Clemson’s record against Jimbo Fisher and SCar? Pretty weird.

Obsessed? You need to retake that psychology course, Tigerlilly.

Your response belies that defensive wall you have built up within...the anger...you feel it...the dark side has you...…..

I’ll tell you why. Living in GA, for a long time Clemson and UGA were seen as basically equal programs. One had a NC in 1980 and the other 1981. Always had plenty of talent and bigger name coaches. Had many good seasons but on the whole over that 30+ year stretch underachieved relative to expectations and talent.

It wasn’t until Clemson and UGA squared off a few years ago that I truly realized that UGA seemed to be in an arms race to get that NC before Clemson.

Now Clemson has squarely risen well above UGA in prominence and it irks the UGA fanbase. Clemson in the lowly ACC was able to figure it out. UGA continues to piss away opportunities to get over the hump.

Dabo had to learn how to win and change the culture. The bowl game against LSU was the beginning, then beating OSU and then OKLA prior to going to the playoffs was just a steady build up.

The Oline was also not very good for years.

The way he recruits a targeted number has worked very well. Having Watson and Lawrence doesn't hurt either. T Boys was good but really got freaked out by UofSC for some reason.

I don't know what light came on for Dabo and Clemson in the last 5 years, but it has. Prior to that he and Clemson were just one of the ACC teams looking up at FSU. They were good but not great.

I think it is because modern college football has become quarterback driven.

People still talk a lot about how important defense is, and talent, and things like that.

But what seems to be a fact to me in this modern age of reffing and spread offenses is this:

The defense can't stop the offense anymore. When an offense is stopped it is because the QB had a bad day. If he is on, the defense can only hope to slow him down, and hope their own offense can keep up.

There still is one way a defense can shut down an offense. By having a decisive talent advantage over the offense.

But even the Alabamas of the world are not going to have enough of an advantage against a lot of teams in their conference, let alone the kinds of teams they'll see in the playoff.

The playoff. A contest to see who signed the best quarterback, and if he is hot for two games.

Clemson has done enough these last few years to get in with 1 loss if there aren’t 4 undefeated teams.

This
And shite I could see them at 1 loss get in over a team like Washington

Because it’s a committee that picks the final 4

The Dabo teams that lost to those teams/coaches don't really resemble Clemson in 2019

Clemson was pretty damn good in '11, '12, and '13.

Florida State just fell off and Spurrier ended up destroying South Carolina on the way out the door.

Smh..... you boys are reaching.

44-16, is that close?

It’s time to put that fairly tale about schedules to bed.

With their schedule, a close game should be looked at as a loss.

Would you say their schedule is better or worse than this one?

1-0 Win-6-6 unranked team

2-0 Win-9-4 unranked non p5 team

3-0 Win-7-5 unranked non p5 team

4-0 Win-5-7 unranked team

5-0 Win-6-6 unranked team

6-0 Win-7-5 unranked team

7-0 Win-4-8 unranked team

8-0 Win-4-8 unranked team

9-0 Win-9-3 ranked #16 team

10-0 Win-8-4 ranked #24 team

11-0 Win-5-6 FCS team

11-1 Loss- 10-3 # 7 team

Because that team got in with an actual Loss......

The bowl game win over LSU was definitely the turning point.

When Dabo hired the OLine coach from Vandy there was massive improvement there, for sure.

You're going to miss that #13 kid too .... Hunter Renfro. Few people talk about the loss of Renfro but he will be missed by Clemson as much as anyone.

Blame Les for being the worlds biggest dumbass that game and Chavis being a fat tub of shite late in games. Jeremy Hill was absolutely killing Clemson and somehow he only got 12 carries. 12 carries for 124 fricking yards. Seriously Les you dumb fricking frickhead, this is the game you decide not to feed your runningback? When he is anal raping a team at 10 yards a carry?

Chavis also couldnt get a stop on 4th and 30 late in the game to seal it

Les and Chavis did good things for LSU but my God its nice to be moved on

Clemson had some good pieces, but they didn't have that complete Top 5 roster until Watson, Wilkins, Big Dex, Mike Williams and a couple others rolled in there.

And yes it helps that USC and FSU got worse, but Clemson's best became better than everyone else's.

I think the rise of Clemson is a big reason SOS is no longer at USCe. Spurrier saw the arse kickings coming and got out of Dodge.

The LSU game in 2012 turned their program around into a BCS bowl contender, recruiting got better, then DeShaun Watson elevated them to another level.

Yeah, if I remember correctly my wife and I were in Edgefield at a New Year’s Eve party. .... I think. I just remember everyone being toasted on good liquor and people screaming at the TV “run the damn ball Les, run the damn ball!”

I remember something happening late, LSU’s QB rolling out or something in Clemson territory and being sacked or falling down or something and we he got up you could see the look on his face and we knew it was over.

I think maybe the following year Brett Musberger opened with Clemson vs Auburn at Clemson and he called the bus ride “the greatest entrance in college sports” lulz.

I may have my timeline mixed up but there was a big change right around that time.
