It was because Alabama and Georgia were down. Knoxville is 3 hours from Atlanta. it's not like they were signing all these kids from across the country.

On top of getting busted for cheating in 3 different decades, Bowden also wrote a letter of leniency for one his former players (Michael Gibson) who was convicted of rape and attempted murder. Coincidentally, Gibson's younger stepbrother was a blue chipper who'd just signed with FSU.

the ACC was a lot easier in the 90s prior to expansion, especially because Clemson fell off.
Being in Florida at that time was a major advantage for recruiting. it doesn't seem to be as much of an advantage now, perhaps because of UCF and USF getting some of the top in state talent.

My family lives in Oak Ridge. A relative of mine is good friends with Tee. Dabo is paying players. Its not even hidden.
