It is more difficult on 1 week prep. That is why we play Ga Southern the week before GT next year.

The UGA Defense is far superior, especially against the run, than it has been in the whole time CPJ has been at Tech.

they layed a beatdown on top-ranked Clemson..

Yeah but they only scored 7 on Miami the week before.

Clemson's high power offense only had 3 points at halftime. their problem was that GT's average defense exposed and shut down the big plays that their offense depends on.

Props to LSU, they beat us in our 1st year running the system with a team full of people not recruited to this system and about 1/3 of the playbook installed. And yes we beat UGA's arse that year. In 2009 we won the ACC with it and were below average on the OL and had a HORREDOUS defense, lost to UGA that year playing 80% of the game without our starting qb. In 2010 we were a trainwreck having OL growing pains(young recruits finally maturing on the OL) and our diet year of the 3-4 defense.
This year we had 2 mental lapses at Virginia and Miami and we are cranked up now. Got a team full of recruits for this system and legitimate passing threats on the edge. OL is still young but they're very talented and all recruited to run the option. Defense is also #1 in the ACC.
I give credit where it's due and I definitely give credit to LSU For whipping us in 2008 and Iowa beat us in 2009. But this is a new team for GT, the team is finally all Paul Johnson recruits. We're the 2nd youngest team in the nation and we're in the thick of the ACC hunt, GT is in very good hands for the future and I would love a shot at another good defense to ram horns with. And to the guy who said VT will stop us...not a shot, thurs night at home and y'all haven't slowed us down yet, we will flamespray VT.
Glad this topic came up, could talk option football all day

Ik ik... tl;dr, csb, gfy diaf

Virginia is not a great team, but they had 2 weeks to prepare for them and held them in check pretty well.

If Arkansas got 4 weeks of preparation, Paul Johnson's gameplan, and a list of each skill player's biggest fears I think we hold them to under 200 yards rushing in the first half.

AU could stop them on 1st and 2nd down, but based on this year's defense I like Tech's chance on the 3rd and longs

don't they run the midline? the midline form of option is always in the spread. my offensive coordinator in high school coached with GA Techs coach. We ran it all no-huddle and spread. I just haven't watched GA Tech this year.

I haven't watched that much Tech either, but from what I've seen, they do run a little bit of midline. Just to confirm, the midline is when you make the read on the DT, not the DE right? If that's the case, I've seen them run a few plays like that. Oregon runs a lot of option plays where the QB makes the read based on what he sees the DT do, though it's kind of funky since the QB is usually running downhill while the RB is trying to get the edge.

Surely you don't think GT would have any type of success against LSU that might equal a win.

It's much more easily defended when you have 4 weeks to plan for it

Why should that matter...they have 4 weeks to make it better too...if you aren't better than the other team, don't take the field...

Might have already be posted but I didn't scroll thru the whole thread.

To defend against GT's triple option, LSU practiced without a football to increase the defense's focus on their assignments.

LSU had one of it's worst defenses that year and I was worried that the option would eat them up. But they dominated no question.

FWIW, the thing that really killed us in that LSU Bowl game wasn't the defense, but special teams. Have a look at the box score yourself. We only had a 10 yard deficit in total yardage but four of LSU's scoring drives totaled 71 yards.

I do agree with the general premise that teams with at least 14 days to prepare do better against us; but we could beat any SEC team except LSU and Bama if we play the way we did Saturday night.

A physical SEC team can shut this offense down. See LSU a few years ago in the Chik-fil-a bowl.
