Could Saban’s Legacy Have Been Greater Had He Stayed at LSU?

Not intended to disrespect Bama or what he has accomplished there in any way, but had he been able to establish a similar type dominance at LSU, would it have been considered a greater accomplishment from an overall career standpoint? Bama has done it before, but LSU never has. Or, do you think he had to learn some lessons by jumping to Miami to get him at the level he is today?

No one, ever, has done what Saban has at Bama.

Saban did great things for LSU. I would think LSU fans would be eternally grateful to have had him.

Saban is obviously the GOAT, but I don't think you can minimize the roles of Mal Moore, Bill Battle, and the Alabama admin and boosters. I don't think even Nick Saban would have been as successful with village idiots in the administration/boosters...which is what some LSU fans seem to think they've had at times.

Yes because he wouldn’t be seen as a coward and laughed at in NFL circles for quitting on the Dolphins

LSU has the resources and fan base etc. it would depend on their AD. I personally think he would have won more titles had he stayed because he is the goat, period.

ETA: In fact he would have TOLD the AD how things were gonna be. You can bet on that. No AD is going to stand in his way no matter where he is.

Deep down I think he regretted leaving LSU and going to Miami. You are right in thinking that if he had the same success at LSU that it would be considered a greater accomplishment.

He is the type of person that knows the success he has had at bama will be somewhat overshadowed by the fact that bama was already considered a blue-blood when he went there.

This is why I think he wants to win a few more NC's before he retires to make sure his legacy is cemented as the best coach at the best CFB program of all time.

L7U would have decided after the second or third NC that they know more about football than Saban and would have started telling him how to coach and who to hire. He would have wound up at Texas and we all would have been screwed.

Yet they don't like Saban. Before Saban, they haven't won a Natty since 1959 or 1960. He left LSU for the NFL which is probably a dream of his. It's not like he left for a different school. When the NFL didn't work out, Saban tried to come back to LSU. Saban said " I want to finish what I started". The AD said "No. We got Les Miles". I'm not sure why the hate.

Which is why all the talk a few years ago about Saban to the Cowboys was comical.

Les Miles won a NC and was a whisker away from winning another in 2011 if Satan wasn't at bama.

The 2006 team was more talented than the 2007 team. Saban would have probably won 2006 and 2007 with the same talent Les barely won 1 NC..

Anybody who doesn't think he would have at least 4 or 5 NC's at LSU if he had stayed is a complete moron (or just a gump).

A ceiling? Wtf is that supposed to mean? Lol, saba could have done the same thing at lsu that he's doing at Bama right now. LSU has the resources, support, and talent base to do it for sure. Your post is ignorant, if you honestly believe that.

Thats a little naive. 2005 they played for the SEC championship, 2006 won the Sugar Bowl, ‘07 national championship. Everything points to him being able to have similar success.

Lmfao!! Yeah Saban is way too sharp to deal with freaking Jerry Jones who thinks he is a coach. He had it made with Jimmy Johnson and we know how that turned out. No way he'd ever go to the cowboys and I mean not even for 20 million a year!

I honestly think he thought he was coming back to LSU when he said I will not be the head coach at Alabama. Everyone thought Les was leaving for Michigan.

He could have done it easier and more often at LSU than at Bama.

LSU has no in state rival to compete with for in state talent like Bama does. Louisiana is a meca for NFL talent. LSU recruits well in Texas (also a meca for NFL talent). After Saban won 2 or 3 championships at LSU, he would have had his pick of talent from all over AND his pick of talent within Louisiana and Texas.

At the minimum, he would have won just as many championships but likely would have won more.
