what is interesting is say DuBose didn't turn it around after the 1999 La Tech fiasco and is canned. Suppose in 2000 Saban goes to Alabama and wins a BCS title, gets complacent and then goes to Miami in 2005. Same thing, wants out, LSU has an opening in 2007 and he goes there. Would his tenure have been similar to what he has done in Tuscaloosa?

Maybe.

And that is the only real answer.

Also, you are aware that LSU has 3 National Titles in a span of ~16 years? I don't think there's any problem in the "being good" department

LSU could have had 4 if not for playing against Saban for the natty in 2011.

I don't see how anyone can think Saban doesn't win 6+ at LSU if he coaches there for 20 years.

Bama is Bama because of Bear, Stallings and Saban. Not the other way around.

Bama was Bama even before the Bear came home to Mama.

There's a reason Alabama's got 4 HoF coaches, and 2 pre-date Coach Bryant.

Who's to say Alabama doesn't hire Dabo Swinney around 2007 and turn them into a powerhouse, just like Saban did, thus preventing Saban from winning a bunch of titles while at LSU? There's too many hypotheticals at play here.

It's also possible that Dabo Swinney ends up at Alabama in this same hypothetical. Dabo's an AHC at Clemson in 2007; if no Saban is available, it's possible Dabo ends up at Alabama.

Wouldn't that be insane?

I don't think that type of thing would have happened if he just stayed at LSU. He would have still had a ton of success at LSU though. Reverse the roles, and I think it would have been similar. If he was at Bama and then went to LSU in the same manner, I think LSU would have had similar success to what Bama has had.

Yes and getting the NFL thing out of his system allowed him focus 100% on college football.

He would have stayed at LSU forever like he is staying at Bama.

Whoever Alabama hired to replace Shula couldn't have competed with that, no one could've.

I dont think there is any doubt of that. Lucky we dodged on Rodriguez

No, because in my parallel universe all of the Louisiana talent still comes to Tuscaloosa, Nick gets fired and comes through the “Whoever Alabama Hired” Coaching Rehab Clinic.

Nick seems to kick Kirby’s arse enough on the cruitin’ trail… prolly a good reason Alabama seems to kick Georgia’s arse of late on the field.

Meh, your mileage may vary.

Saban knows he could have had more success at LSU. He said he wished he would have never left.

Abso-fricking-lutely. He would have similar success at all of the big 6 schools too.
