Kumar Rocker is a freaking stud. It pains me to see Msu get so close to Natty’s but fail. The 2013 title vs UCLA was hard to take and recently two womens title games, one lost on a 3 point buzzer beater drove me to drinking. Hopefully we can beat Louisville tomorrow and at least stay in the hunt. Anyway, good game and that 3 run homer told me “Here we go again.”

Not particularly fond of State but am partial to loyal fan bases. Would like to see MSU get off the schneid. This year is as good as any. Make it happen.

No one is beating Vandy. That lineup is lethal

You aren't continually close to a natty if you continuously get your arse kicked.

Never a thread where you don’t take the time to rip on Miss State. Is this your second job?

If the Dores make it to the championship series, it will be well earned. Both State and Louisville are damn good baseball teams. It's not over yet.

Jeez.

If women’s sports does that, what does football do to you?

Heroin? Meth?

With the state of athletics at South Carolina, I guess we should be asking you this question...

Fortunately, we never get close enough to titles in football to worry about it.

What can you expect when Vandy is allowed to have unlimited scholarships through a loophole. It’s an unfair advantage that needs to be addressed by the ncaa

It is addressed by the NCAA.

Nothing wrong with what Vandy does. The real issue is that the NCAA scholarship limit in baseball is just dumb. If you can't afford 18 schollies for 27 players, stop pretending that you are a D1 baseball school.

Why are fans of the Mississippi baseball programs so fixated on this? It gets mentioned in passing by others but folks in the Magnolia State are obsessed.

Here’s the thing, 11.7 scholarships divided among 35 athletes at a school that charges $25k a year has an EXTREME advantage over a school with 11.7 scholarships divided among 35 athletes at a school that charges $70k a year. Is that really “fair?”

Psssst and the state schools get to treat it as 11.7 out-of-state scholarships, meaning in-state kids can get basically a full-ride while only counting as just more than half a scholarship. But don't worry, it's only unfair when Vandy gets to level the financial equation.

Except Vandy isn't just dividing 11.7 scholarships. Every man on the Vandy roster is getting a scholarship, whether it's through the 11.7 or Vandy's generous financial aid program. The size and scope of that program allows Vandy to concentrate their baseball scholarship money in ways that other schools can't. It's still not an easy deal for Vandy (if it was, they'd do it every year), but it's silly for Vandy fans to pretend that they are facing the same constraints as other schools.

If there was a “Bridesmaid National Championship” trophy we would have a case of those.

No, the constraints aren't the same, but the starting points aren't the same either. Both the private and public schools have their advantages in these situations. The public schools have much lower costs to attend to start with and can calculate their 11.7 scholarships as if every baseball player is coming from out of state. The private schools have higher stated cost of attendance but more generous financial aid available to ALL students on campus, which does benefit athletes.

Really and sincerely, if you deep dive into the demographcis involved (ie the typical elite D1 baseball recruit is coming from a middle to upper middle class family) and how the private financial aid programs work along with how academic, need-based, and athletic scholarships work under NCAA policy, the private school "need-based" programs essentially just serve to make private schools cost as much to attend as a public school. Which, obviously, then means the public schools do lose the advantage they have typically had of being cheaper is gone.
