No one is beating Vandy. That lineup is lethal

Understand what you are saying twk but my point is that without Opportunity VU, the school is at a huge disadvantage. Those who complain about the program appear to be ok with the program being at that disadvantage as opposed to a more level playing field that was created with the implementation of the financial aid program.
Personally, I would LOVE for the sport to be fully funded.

quote:I'm not complaining about it--I'm all for kids getting financial aid, and this program certainly wasn't started to reap an athletic advantage--I'm just pointing out that it's silly for Vandy fans to claim that it doesn't give them an advantage. It does more than just level the playing field.

The solution isn't to penalize Vandy for making tuition affordable for all students--it's for the NCAA to allocate a reasonable amount of scholarships to the sport. If they did, Vandy baseball would be about as successful as Vandy basketball--they'd have their moments, but they wouldn't be quite the Omaha regular that they are now.

Maybe...but Corbin is also one of the top 5 coaches in the country, right? Maybe some would argue he's only top 10. When has Vanderbilt basketball ever had that? I think it would be really interesting to see what impact going to 18 or 20 scholarships would have. I think it should happen, too, but I also think the NCAA should look at the men's soccer number. In soccer, you only get 9 scholarship equivalents, so you can't even field a starting roster of full ride guys if you wanted to do so.
Note: Vandy was the #1 overall seed in 2007, two school years before the start of the financial aid program people see as a massive advantage. The NCAA didn't even tweak the rules until 2011 to where that financial aid program could be applied to athletes. That was about 5 months after Vandy finished 3rd in Omaha as the #6 national seed. Those finishes are already ahead of whatever the basketball team has ever done.

Taken directly from TAMU’s financial aid website.
“In fact, last year on average, a student with a family income under $40,000 had an out-of-pocket cost of approximately $8,485, and a student with a family income between $40,000 and $80,000 had an out-of-pocket cost of approximately $10,942.”
GTFO with this “advantage” crap.

But your coaches and admin don't because a level field would sink the anchor.

I am genuinely curious to know how many high-level college baseball prospects choose one school over another solely based on scholarship money.
