I remember that beating. I guess the weak SWC didn't prepare us for that game.

What does that have to do with 1977? Notre Dame was 8-1-1 in 1969 and 10-1 before they played Texas in the 1978 Cotton Bowl.

No team was beating Arkansas in the Orange Bowl that night. Lou Holtz suspended four offensive starters. The line moved to over a 20 point favourite for Oklahoma. Arkansas was vastly underrated. Oklahoma thought they would show up and it would be an easy win but RB Roland Sales had a Orange Bowl record of 205 yards rushing. He wasn't even a starter. Meanwhile Notre Dame lost to a 5-6 Ole Miss team.

No one was beating Arkansas that night the way they played.

Truly a cool feat

Anyone who hasn’t done this and is dissing is is jealous.

What Florida did was remarkable.

Arky had a great program and actually has had success in the sec.

Alabama has the AP and UPI titles that year.

Arkansas has the Football Writers one.

Notre Dame has the NFF one.

Bama has the true national title that year

Has another team accomplished winning all three? Florida is definitely the only one to win all three within roughly decade, and well within the modern era for all three sports. UF fans have had a lot to celebrate since the 90s.

Truly an enviously well ran athletic department overall.

Only 4 of those teams have a track and field national title as well, so Florida has won all 4. Arkansas with the trifecta. Hooefully, Van Horn gets a baseball title soon

UCLA

Depends on the criteria for this one. If you have it be the AP/BCS/CFP, UCLA does not have a national championship in football.

Sadly neither of Arkansas' title were awarded by the wire services, AP or UPI (coaches).

Still, you should enjoy it. You'll never win another.

As much as I hate to I have to hand it to Florida. they won both in the same year.

#Respect

Betting nobody has done that before, and probably will never be repeated.

Both while I was going to school there too. Best run in college sports for a program ever while I was there. Imagine if we had won the 2005 CWS on top that.

Is it too late to get another degree from UF? Maybe an MBA, just for the sake of our athletic program reaching elite status again?

It was a great year for the Gators, no doubt.

I'll be every Gator fans head couldn't fit through a door that year...and rightfully so. It was quite an accomplishment.
