Pre-NCAA Tournament titles don't count.

I unironically didn't know Arkansas had a claimed football title and when I went to google it apparently it's mired in controversy

They are all mythical national championships.

64 and 77 are no more or less mythical than any other national championship. It is why college football ended up with a playoff.

I did not, but I didn't realize that it's 3 days old, so someone else might have.

Arkansas was the only undefeated team and didn't lose to Texas like the other team did. Really not much of a controversy, imo.

Texas was the team to beat in the 60s. If you beat them then you had a very good chance of winning a national championship. They hoarded all the talent. Arkansas lost quite a few chances of winning it all with loses to Texas.

There's no controversy about it except for bamans. The AP released their final poll before the bowl games that year.

Arkansas beat Nebraska in the Cotton Bowl to go undefeated, while Alabama lost to Texas (who Arkansas had already beaten) in the Orange Bowl.

The AP changed their policy after that season as a result which cost the Razorbacks the 1965 AP championship.

The school doesn't claim 77 but they should. That defense was nasty with Dan Hampton. They were a double-digit underdog but pulled off the biggest upset in bowl history. Only lost to a Texas 13-9 that involved a controversial penalty.

Instead most newspapers and organizations that were biased gave it to Notre Dame who lost to a 5-6 Ole Miss team.

Rothman Fact has Arkansas as Co-champion.

No doubt and that defense I think had five shutouts in a row.

Nebraska was already somewhat integrated and they had a size advantage that Arkansas hasn't faced. But despite the challenge, they won.

Notre Dame would have destroyed Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl like they did Texas.

Clearly a long time ago.

Who is the red 'M' that's listed 2nd? Maryland?

Notre Dame went 9-1 and didn't make an appearance in a bowl game until 1969 which they lost to Texas.

#2 Oklahoma destroyed us 6-31 in the Orange Bowl.
