My oldest got some low D1 attention but didn't really want to swim in college. My youngest is on the fence. We visit Ouachita Baptist soon.

Awesome - good luck! My kids aren't HS aged yet, but a local HS senior made the Auburn swim team. Wish Texas had recruited him.

This may not be the exact scoring, but it's something like this..

Top 24 score... 1st-8th it's 32->22 points, with a 4 point gap between 1st and 2nd, single point increments following. 9-16 starts at 20, 3 point gap to 10th place, then single digit each spot to end up at 11 points for 16th. C finals, 17-24th starts at 9 points, 2 point gap between 17th and 18th, then single point reduction each place until 1 point for 24th.

Relays follow the same pattern, but double points. Girls stop at 13th place and guys end at 11. Diving is scored the same as swimming, but the audience isn't subjected to enduring 17th-24th compete a 2nd time.

We have a family friend who is a freshman at Auburn who was SEC freshman of the week a couple weeks back. Fun stuff!

Valparaiso, for example, recruited my older daughter. When we went for a visit, they had flyers all over campus trying to recruit anyone with HS swim experience to join the team, no matter how good they were. They had >35 second 50 free swimmers on roster. That wouldn't have made state championships for 10 year olds.

I knew a couple guys swimming d1 in a P5 without jr cuts one wasn't particularly close either. I went to prom with a girl who set the private school h.s. national record in 100 back, forever ago. Her bff went to college with the not even close to jrs guy. It was mildly embarrassing explaining to her that her bff was actually faster than that guy.

I think you left out university of north florida. Pretty sure they're d1, being in the ASUN.

The transfer portal has really changed how recruiting works in every sport. P4 programs can sit back and see what happens to high school talent at mid majors and D2 schools and then recruit them from the portal.

Very little P4 recruiting high schools anymore. Just the very elite talent (Olympic Trials cuts) are getting attention from SEC schools.

10 years ago, an AAA swimmer would have multiple P4 offers. Might not be championship contenders, but they'd get attention.

Just take a look at the Louisiana Class of 2025

LINK /

Top HS swimmer (Jesuit) is headed to Wisconsin
No. 2 (Mandeville) is going to Alabama

No one else in the state is going P4

Girls side - top swimmer (Episcopal) is headed to Houston and No. 5 (Ascension) is going to Iowa State. Two going to Little Rock, one to Colorado State and one to Illinois State.

Sad to see where Auburn is now compared to the juggernaut teams Marsh had in the 90s.

It's straight up asinine to choose Margo over Bishop, so hopefully it was for academic reasons. I'll also contend Louisiana is not a talent rich state. Brooks is the rare exception going back to the Kris Babylon or Ashley Tappins of the early to mid 90s. Might as well fire a stray at Mississippi, while I'm at it, been a while since we've seen a Bowen sister level good.

My brother is dating a chick whose daughter was top 10 across all h.s. classifications in florida... but for diving lol. Not even 2 hours ago was i breaking the she should look outside of the SEC for college, because of the impending 22 person roster limit. Sucks to try and up sell acc programs over my own conference, but shite is about to get dicey in conference with 8 fewer roster spots than the other power 3. You could hear the surprise in my brother's voice as I was trashing the sec in front of a recruit's mom... except Vanderbilt. There would be no roster spot concerns there.

Since it really isn't getting discussed much yet, damn this meet has been fast af. Seeing Crooks top dressel in sub 18.0 swims is wild. Seeing 3 men's 200 medley teams go sub conference meet record, all by over a half second is nuts. Same in the the 800 relay, but top 3 under by more than a second. Tennessee guys breaking the ncaa record in the 200 free relay, a half second faster than uf, who also was faster than the previous ncaa record been a great watch so far, despite my school's return to mediocrity.

Kentucky digging out of the hole that Lars set them in. Brent is doing g a good job and will take some time to really get it going I know the majority of the team has been cut not making SEC times. Brent is going in with young talent and transfer portal.

Y'all were doing well under Lars until the allegations started rolling in. Did you see he got hit with a 3 year show cause a couple days back, for things not involving the rape allegations? Your girl Riley has apparently caught a very lengthy case of laryngitis, because she's been suspiciously quiet about these things

I know. It’s just going to g to take time for Brent to climb out of the mess that Lars left. I don’t know if it is true, but it sounded like the NCAA has dropped a limitation on scholarships on swimming now. At least, that is being told to me by a couple of UK men swimmers.

1 season in and 1 conference championship. Florida does not 13-peat in men’s or 3-peat in women’s.

Correct, with the new limitation of 30 person rosters. The SEC opted to restrict that even further, to only 22 person rosters Texas swimming and diving transfer portal is about to be lit af.
