That wasn't my point... you said they don't care what UTa says. I pointed out that everytime they have a chance to do their own thing... UTa drops the hammer on'em.
And I'm saying it is more due to Baylor, Texas Tech, and the Texas legislature and not the Longhorns.

Conference Realignment
quote:
Texas will keep the SEC out of the state of Texas
What do you mean by this? Because most everyone knows that LSU has recruited S. TX very well for many years.
quote:
Why would Texas want to let part of it's self dominated state be saturated with SEC marketing and Teams? They DO NOT need the money.
What?
quote:
When you have enough money you always keep your competition down and out. Texas has just that.
Oh, please...
The University of Texas will keep out a full flooded marketing campaign towards in-state kids growing up SEC fans. Texas kids are Big12 first and foremost with every school in Texas part of the Big12. The SEC is option #2 regardless if it's a better option or not.
Texas dominates an entire state that is all Big12 country. They want to keep it that way because Austin is by far and away the best place to go to school in the entire state of Texas.
Oh, please is correct. Why do you think pattens are bought out by larger companies?

Since I live in Texas and have some idea about how the Big 12 was formed, how the Texas legislature is involved in conference politics, and how Baylor is involved in anything... I'm guessing I know a bit better.
Then you should know that UTa has the most pull in the legislature... and they always seem to get what they want.
mostly yes - altho it seems likely that they would rather be independent or have joined the pac ten a year or two ago
politically they didn't want to be blamed by Baylor, T Tech etc IMO - but would have been willing to slide the blame onto A&M if that opportunity presented itself

Texas wanted to go to the PAC-10 last year and bring CU, OU, OSU, BU, TT, and A&M with them. 5 schools said yes. A&M said no. It didn't happen. Texas isn't telling A&M what to do.
Beebe guaranteed A&M $20/yr to stay in the Big XII. That was the best option for A&M. Had Texas decided to go PAC-10 without A&M we would have joined the SEC

Twenty whole dollars a year?

$20 a year. That's why we're Aggies.
I heard he paid in $5s though so we could "make it rain" at our local strip club

I don't want anyone else in the sec. We don't need anyone else.

I'll give the Aggies $25 to stay put. Do I win the bidding?

$25 per year, guaranteed?
This may be an offer aTm can not walk away from...

I like this. Havine UK, UF and KU would mean we would be 2nd only to the ACC in basketball, easily still the juggernaut in football and UF, Vandy, LSU and USCe would make us easily the strongest baseball.

#1 Having*
#2 I take the back the "2nd to the ACC" I would argue we were the best in basketball. Meaning the SEC would literally be the best conference in all 3 big sports.

Kansas and Mizzou have no business in the SEC IMO.
aTm only makes sense to get TX viewers.

I agree and VT would be the other smart addition but Clemson will do fine
Posted on 7/20/11 at 7:05 pm to roadGator
If TAMU comes in, the only other western team the SEC would be interested in would be Oklahoma.
Otherwise, it makes more sense to expand to the east. Virginia Tech or West Virginia IMO.

Combined with Tennessee and Kentucky would monopolize the Hillbilly demographic, congress would step in and break this monopoly up before it could be started.

Yeah, the SEC is trying to sell entertainment, not oxycotins (SP?).

I don't want more teams in the SEC because it will play all kinds of hell with the scheduling issues in football
12 works - even just expanding to 14 makes things a lot trickier
