Conference realignment idea

Instead of adding more teams (and diluting annual payout), The SEC should form strategic partnerships with the Big 12 and ACC to parlay the combined viewership clout into sustainable guaranteed contract dollars for each conference and preserve existing relationships and rivalries within each conference….. sort of an OPEC for college football. We should not be raiding other conferences for teams that will provide marginal viewership increases for a market that is facing a revenue decline.

Handshake deals ought to be good enough with any alliance…

So instead of taking 4-8 from the two conferences you want to share revenue with all teams in both conferences? And just hope the Big10 doesn’t raid either?

Yes…. No more diluting the SEC brand or our annual payout. Bringing the distributors (CBS, ESPN) to a more equitable bargaining arrangement. College football is not on a sustainable course. We can see this with what is happening with ESPN. Online Streaming $ will be much less than cable subscription $ and a market correction will be coming soon.

There is going to be a market correction very soon. Having an agreement in place with the bargaining clout of the combined viewership of ACC, Big 12, and SEC would put us in a very good position.

Like Russia and Germany in 1940.
BIG and ACC and PAC-12
Famous alliances like that.

Nice idea, but it's kinda obvious the ACC has a countdown clock over their head.

Just curious… what is your idea to deal with the current broken system?
Status quo isn’t sustainable.
Addition by subtraction builds unwieldy conference footprints and isn’t economically feasible.
Isolation isn’t going to work either….

The ACC’s GOR means that the entire conference would have to dissolve before the individuals can jump ship.

Like NATO, Allied Powers, Gulf War Coalition… I think you’ve been studying the wrong side of history my friend.

Admittedly, I've been out of the loop for a couple of weeks. What is all the talk about the SEC expanding again, after we just added Oklahoma and Texas?
I know the ACC has their woes but come on, we need to pat the brake!
The SEC was fine at 12 teams. 14 teams was pushing it but we made it work. Now we're set to add more and be at 16 teams, which is most likely our limits. If you add more, you have to discard rivalries that are sacred and that usually add more money to the conference pot.
We can use hindsight and say "well maybe we should have waited before we added these last 2 teams" but that's done now.
Let's implore the member college presidents to HOLD OFF for a couple of seasons, let Oklahoma and Texas settle in and see if the QUALITY of what we had at 12 and 14 members holds, if getting rid of the East-West divisions works or not.
Like I said, late to the game here but this discussion no longer makes sense to me. It's like grabbing at whatever someone throws out the window and I'm still not happy about Oklahoma and Texas.
SLOW THE HELL DOWN, SEC!

Apparently, from the talk, FSU doesn't care about the GOR. & I wouldn't be surprised to see Clemson joining them, then.....

So, you'ld be fine if the B1G took ALL the ACC (at least FSU, Clemson, Miami, Va., VT, NC, ND, & (why not?) GT)?
Therefore making B1G @ 26 while the SEC stays @ 16 with no needle movers to add?

The AcC GOR means that the ACC owns the broadcast rights to the home games of every ACC member until 2036. So adding one of them doesn’t add to the existing SEC ‘pie’ since the ACC gets any revenue generated from broadcast rights until 2036. The correct question would be… why should the SEC add any team that won’t be generating additional revenue for 13 years?

As I stated, you'ld be fine with the B1G taking all the major name brand teams with no chance of them in the SEC (even in 2036)?

2022 average viewership for SEC adding OU and Texas was 45 million per Saturday for all games.
2022 Big 10 viewership adding the 4 new PAC teams was 42 million per Saturday.
People on west coast aren’t college fans like the south.
That’s appx 87 million eyeballs.
The south is growing and well as its universities. Time will come for two 20 team conferences. ND needs to join Big 10 and Big ten take Stanford.
SEC needs Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Clemson, FSU
Form agreement to play Natty

Can’t we make the agreement without adding to our conference? Use the bargaining power of ACC, Big 12, and SEC viewership to set a base pay, and let each conference negotiate their own packages.
