No one thought Bama would lose last year, but Bama came out, shite the bed for an entire quarter, dug itself a hole so big that only Cam could have gotten them out of it, and lost the game. The key isn't stats. The key to this game has always been that Bama doesn't come out and lapse for a quarter like they did last year. They do that, they win. It's simple. If Bama sleep walks or commits dumb penalties and doesn't cover Aggy, they'll get housed again. It really is about how Bama performs.

only 3 defensive starters took the field against Rice

Heard a guy from CFN talking about this, yesterday. Seems like this is largely being brushed over by most of the nat'l media....

He was trying to stress that this would NOT be the same defense A&M has shown, to this point.

The compelling case is that Bama has better athletes and better coaches

I'm sure it's possible but 200 yards against a middle of the road ACC team does not suggest anyone should be confident in huge scores against conference foes - especially top-tier conference teams.

I expect the Bama offense to look radically different this Saturday. As he is the Tide's best offensive weapon, expect Cade Foster to see some time under center.

In all srsness tho, I gotta imagine that Bama was limiting their offense to some degree against VT, especially when they jumped out to a lead and VT was being stymied on offense. To what degree they were limited remains to be seen. Should be a very interdasting game

They didn't have better coaches and athletes last year?

They did last year and do this year. They are better and odds are in their favor but anything can happen.

No it won't. The Alabama/LSU game will be a much more competitive game.
