2. Derrius Guice, LSU
Fournette might be gone, but there's almost as much excitement with Guice, who almost re-defines "hard runner." Guice had 758 rushing yards and eight TDs in LSU's last four games last season. Expect more where that came from.
quote:
3. Bo Scarbrough, Alabama
Scarbrough is high on this list, but the College Football Playoff showed the talent level we're dealing with. Scarbrough should fit as the lead back under new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, but it's a matter of what kind of committee forms with Damien Harris, Najee Harris and B.J. Emmons.
quote:
5. Kamryn Pettway, Auburn
Pettway's decision to stay in school is adds another level of excitement for Auburn, which seems poised to compete for the SEC West championship. Pettway produced 1,224 yards and seven TDs, and figures to build on that with Jarrett Stidham at quarterback.
quote:
7. Nick Chubb, Georgia
Chubb is a top-10 back on this list for the third conseuctive season, and his decision to stay in school has the Bulldogs hoping for a SEC East championship. He's averaged 6.4 yards per carry through that career. Should he be the fourth SEC back on this list?
quote:
10. Ralph Webb, Vanderbilt
Webb ranked fourth in the SEC with 1,283 yards and 13 TDs in 2016 and closed the season with three straight 100-yard games. That's a go-to guy the Commodores can count on between the tackles.

Special mention
Damien Harris, Alabama; James Gilbert, Ball State; Jordan Scarlett, Florida; Sony Michel, Georgia; Benny Snell, Kentucky; James Butler, Nevada; Rodney Anderson, Oklahoma; LJ Scott, Michigan State; Damarea Crockett, Missouri; Bradrick Shaw, Wisconsin; Trayveon Williams, Texas A&M; Kyle Hicks, TCU; Jordan Chunn, Troy.
quote:
Honorable mention
Najee Harris, Alabama; Andy Davidson, Army; Terence Williams, Baylor; Devin Singletary, Florida Atlantic; Diocemy St. Juste, Hawaii; Jarred Craft, Louisiana Tech; Ty Johnson, Maryland ; Chris Evans, Michigan; Tyrone Evans, New Mexico; Rashaad Penny, San Diego State; Braeden West, SMU; Ryquell Armstead, Temple; John Kelly, Tennessee.

How much hype would Ralph Webb be getting if he were on an SEC West roster? That is a guy who puts in the work every down.

Switch Pettway and Chubb and the list looks about right. If Chubb returns to pre injury form then he's the best back in the country

What's the difference between special mention and honorable mention?

Najee Harris is already getting a mention but no Kerryon Johnson? List is shite.

Louisiana Tech pumping out some talent!

I think the list is pretty much spot on. Pettway should be even better with a throwing threat, and there's no guarantee Chubb can do better than last year post injury...which he was pretty damn solid then.
I'm interested to see Guice in the passing game with Canada calling plays. Has the potential to be really special.

Kerryon Johnson vs P5 opponents in 2016
Clemson : 23 rushes, 94 yards (4.1 YPC), 1 TD
Texas A&M : 15 rushes, 60 yards (4.0 YPC), 1 TD
LSU : 22 carries, 93 yards (4.2 YPC), 0 TD
MSU : 3 carries, 21 yards (7.0 YPC), 0 TD
Ole Miss : 11 carries, 42 yards (3.8 YPC), 2 TD
Vandy : 9 carries, 36 yards (4.0 YPC), 1 TD
Georgia : 22 carries, 99 yards (4.5 YPC), 1 TD
Alabama : 8 carries, 39 yards (4.9 YPC), 0 TD
Oklahoma : 9 carries, 33 yards (3.7 YPC), 0 TD
122 carries, 517 yards, 4.2 YPC
Pretty pedestrian

It's astonishing how overlooked it is that Chubb managed to even play last season, let alone rush for over 1100 yards. The fact that he's only listed at 7th on that list and 4th in the conference despite coming back for a 4th year with a lot more time to rest and rebuild his strength before this season as compared to last (not to mention a 2nd year starter at QB and Sony Michel with whom to split carries) makes him criminally underrated.

FIFY
There is literally nothing to justify Scarborough that high.

I hate to say it, but I just don't think that's happening.

Cam Akers is ranked #18.

KJ hasn't been the same since he was injured a few years ago. He doesn't deserve to be mentioned until he proves he has fully recovered.

Yea, except for the whole 6 TDs, 506 yards on 74 carries (6.84 YPC) against the #4, #5, #6, #8 and #33 ranked defenses to end the season.
How many elite run defenses did Pettway run well against last season? Arkansas State, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt?

Now show Najee's...
I wouldn't put guys who haven't played a snap on there, but I'd put Joshua Jacobs on the list before Kerryon Johnson.

It's his OL that needs to return to his pre-injury days. The OL that Gurley and Chubb rushed behind was special - opened lanes that even SEC Ranters could run for days in. The one they had last season and likely this coming season is mediocre at best.
Chubb is a one-cut and go back and damn good at it but for that type of back to really show off the OL has to give him a seam.

Hey now, if you get 4 YPC on 3 straight runs that's a first down so boom dynamite.
